Subject: Reconnaissance Inspection
Riverbend Steam Station
NPDES Permit No. NC0004961
Gaston County
Dear Mr. Loveland:
A reconnaissance inspection was conducted at the subject facility on June 5, 2019, by Ori
Tuvia, Joana Harbison and Brandy Costner. Richard Massey's and your cooperation during the
site visit was much appreciated. Please advise the staff involved with this NPDES Permit by
forwarding a copy of this letter report.
The reconnaissance visit was conducted to verify that the coal ash wastewater treatment
unit and its associated outfall 002, have been taken out of service. The site visit confirmed that
the treatment has been disassembled and removed. The individual components were cleaned by
Haz-Mat Environmental between March 21 and May 6, 2019. Furthermore, the influent and
effluent piping have been disconnected eliminating discharge via outfall 002 (see photo below).
