Dear MORELLA SANCHEZ KING,
This letter is being sent in response to a Notice of Deficiency letter issued by your office on
the above -mentioned facility. This facility was impacted by 8,6 inches of rainfall from
December 1, 2017 to January 31, 2018 which saturated application fields. Also, we had below
normal temperatures' during this time frame. These conditions did not allow for land
application of waste out of lagoons in accordance with permit requirements. Instead of land
applying in a manner that would possibly have caused -there to be ponding or runoff, excess
rainfall was stored in the lagoon. As soon as the weather and field conditions allowed,, land
application resumed. This facility's freeboard was back in compliance by 2/28/18.
If you have any questions regarding this matter feel free to can my record keeper, Derek
Brown at 910-271-0917 or email him at debrown@smithfield.com.
Sincerely,
Brandon Elston
