General Project Narrative:
(Description of Minimization of Water
Quality Impacts)
R-5870 proposes to construct a new access road into the Alexander Industrial Park from W.E. Baab Industrial Road (current terminus at the existing cul-de-sac) to White Plains
Road (SR 1422). Approximately 1,100 linear feet of grass swales have been incorporated in roadside ditches, where possible, to reduce the velocity and promote the infiltration
of runoff. Riprap at pipe outlets, ditches, and streambanks has been incorporated to minimize erosion on slopes where vegetation will not be adequate. NCDOT standards for
ground cover, vegetation, and slope stabilization will be adhered to during the life of this project, and will be specified in the NCDOT Erosion and Sediment Control Plan for the
project.

Additional Comments
All back slopes on the project are 2:1, which do not explicitly fit swale design criteria, however, an average of the front and back slopes were taken to determine swale locations. This made the majority of the averaged slopes
3:1.
