Dear Mr. Upton,
On June 23, an Operation Review was conducted on Williamson and Upton Hog
Farm, facility no. 82-114. This Review, undertaken in accordance with G.S. 143-215.10D,
is one of two visits scheduled for all registered livestock operations during the 1999
calendar year. The Division of Water quality will conduct a second site inspection.
During the Review, it was noted that there was a wet area on the toe of the
outside slope of the lagoon behind the pump house next to the woods line. The liquid in
the wet area had a oxidized color (red -orange color). The Division of Water Qualitywill
conduct a follow-up visit to the farm site to check for possible seepage problem of agoon.
You are strongly encouraged to contact your certified technical specialist for help.
You may also want to contact your local Soil and Water Conservation District Office since
they may be able to provide you with additional technical and/or financial assistance to
implement corrective best management practices.
Please remember that in order for your facility to be in compliance with
environmental regulations, animal waste carmot be discharged into the waters of the
State, and the animal waste collection, treatment, storage and disposal systems must be
properly sized, maintained and operated under the responsible charge of a certified
operator.

possible seepage problems.'
14b- WA Determination required because CAWMP credits field acreage in excess of 75% of the respective field's total acreage.
18- Need to fill out odor control and insect control checklists. Farm is Permitted. Need storage calculations of lagoons with
paperwork on farm site from technical specialist which certified the facility.
25- Need to move cows from bermuda spray field. Waste Plan wrote for bermuda hay.
26- Need to extend discharge pipe so waste is discharging at or below lagoon level surface for odor control measures.
