Mr. Noland tias accou0anied'by. Mr. Mike West. who: -.is in ,charge of overseeing. this operation -for' the •Rural-Advaticament Fund, an agricultiial demonstration and:idsearch organization: " s Hr..West proposes .to raise feeder pigs on approximately 8 acres of lands He:. will begin operation by using 66 sowe,,4,boars and approximately 120 piglets with ' - one' farrowing house:.. ; According to Mr..•West's description, he"plans to keep the piglets in --the farrowing house only; until ttiey•,'are old enough to be moved out into, open pastures. The area is to be divided; into various•.,lote . which have specific purposes (see • .'site sketch). Although the -area at -present is.wboded, Mr. West plans to 'clear out all but the larger trees and then seed with Bermuda'Grasg.,..The,ground surface soil layer . = consisted mostly of a;sandy.material. There were'no streams or man-made ditches in or immediately bounding the'feedlot area.and-;Mr. West indicated he did not plan. to construct any::`:. There are two ponds' toihi west. of. the feedlot; -however, ` the larger• of the two is located upColope from -the feedlot and will •not receive any runoff.
