SUBJECT: Prestage Farm No. 258

Dear Mr. Griffin:
On January 2, 1991, Mr. Ricky Revels, Environmental Technician, Fayette-
ville Regional Office, inspected the Prestage Turkey Farm contract No. 258 for
the purpose of evaluating animal waste handling practices of the existing
turkey operation. The subject turkey farm is located off of •(NCSR 1818)
Blanks Road and is a Prestage Farme, Inc., contract grower operation. All
waste disposal practices are covered in the grower/company contract agreement.
As a result of this on -site inspection, it was determined that waste is being
removed from the houses and hauled to nearby agricultural areas for utiliza-
tion. All buildings are designed such that rain water does not come in
contact with solid waste, along with the fact that no surface waters of the
state are located near subject facility.
Based on our inspection, it is the opinion of this office that the
existing facility is following sound agricultural practices as recommended by
the Department of Agriculture. Th=is, the turkey operation should have little
effect on the adjacent surface waters.
