Hunt, Jr., Governor Joseph W. Grimsley, Secretary DIVISION OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT June 25, 1962 Mr. Don Kirk Route 2 Polkton, North Carolina 28135 SUBJECT: Water Quality Complaint Newsome Farm Anson County Dear Mr. Kirk: This letter is in reference to your complaint regarding surface water impact of turkey manure stockpiled in a field owned by Mr. Curtis Newsome of the Peachland Community adjacent'to'8tate Road 1236 in Anson County. An on -site investigation was conducted by Mr. Ricky Revels,'Monitoring-Technician, Fayetteville Regional Office, on March 11, 1982. Based on samples taken by Mr. Revels, and his inspection of the site, there was no conclusive evidence which°would indicate surface water pollution due to the presence of the turkey manure. Mr. Newsome has removed the remaining turkey manure piles and been advised that should this practice become necessary in the future, that he locate the piles at least 50 feet west of this location to hopefully insure that no -surface contamination results. If we can be of further assistance to you in this matter, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Revels in Fayetteville at telephone (919) 486-1541. Sincerely, ittcr' • (' --a1 ennis R.
