Based on the following information it is believed that the proposed
hog parlor will not adversely effect the grou#dwater regime of the
i=. ediate area;
1. Suitable percolation rates
Blanton Soil--0.6" per hour (lagoon)
2. Lagoon is clay -lined.
3. Nearest well is more than s mile away
4. Sparsely populated area
5. Spray irrigation, if necessary at all, will occur only
about 2-3 times per year.
In addition, if circumstances dictate, we would at the proper time
require that a suitable number of shallow wells be constructed for
monitoring pollution, if any.

Hog Parlor
Richmond County
Plans and application for a permit were received on March 1, 1976, for non -
discharge wastewater facilities consisting of an approximately 0.78 acre holding
lagoon to retain the feed lot wastewater hence being applied to the adjacent farm-
land of subject's owner twice each year.
Subsequent to our review of the subject plans, we recommend that the application
rate should not exceed 1/4-inch/acre/day and not more than 1-inch/acre/week.
Comments from Ground Water Section and a site evaluation should be provided.
RECOMMENDATIONS: That Mr. James C. Gray, Route 3,' Box 496-B, Rockingham, North
Carolina 28379 be contacted and advised that the above items
must be provided by May 17, 1976, to prevent the project being
returned as incomplete.'

Company oy Greensboro, was involved in an ac_idew on US Highway 021, appr=iwately
t nl a miles (12) south of Clinton in sampion County. !sae to Lhe accident approxi-
mately 7,000 gallons of No. .5 fuel oil was spilt or the road side. The oil soaked
soM and rha materials used in the clean ups were disposed of by burial in..a Sampson
County landfill. The placement of this naterial in the la.»dfi? 1 waa authorized by
. r. Bill Shan of the Sampson County Health Departraat. The laad fill is l.oented
just off AC S1 11100, appro.sizztely three-teat'rs (J) mile south of its juactinni
with :iC so 11106 (See attached Nap [P.I) .
On January 26, 1976, a. tanker truck baloagi"a to the Asphalt and Petroleum Company
of Wilmington, North Carolina, *rat involved in W Occident cn US High a7 A21,
aptrox imwe;.y four (4) miles south of the Vowameationea wreck involving the tant:er
belonging to Southern oil Transportation Company. Due to this accident appro:,:imately
7,000 gallons of 66 fuelz oil was spilt; however, most. of the oi.l was later removed
and hauled Of, The zamai-ping oil soared soil azd the materials used in the cleanup
were disposed of by placament in an old borrow pit belonging to the north Carolina
Department of Transportation. The material eras 'pl.aced there because the Department
of Transportation was closely iuvolved is the clean up and that was twhare thay wu ntea
to put it. Thin place_=eat was approved by err. C. D. Jernagan,�Ikiintenance Supervisor
for DOT in Sampson County. The borrow pit is located at. the end of NC SR 11223 in
Contra! Sampson County (See attached :-fap [P]).
