Dear Mr. Lane, Mr. Ward, Mr. Steffens
Regarding the bridge replacement Beaufort 249, The NCDOT is requesting a permit modification to allow
for the addition of 65 LF of Rip Rap on the slop located at approximate Station 16+15 -L- RT to the
planned Rip Rap at Station 16+85 -L- RT during the existing moratorium of February 15 to Sept. 30. The
original plans (attached) show the area at the toe of this slope being a wetland, but the actual condition as of
now, is that the area is open water. This water may raise with the direction of wind tides, and is a hinderance
to this slope being able to establish vegetation and becoming stable. For this reason we are requesting the
addition of the Rip Rap in order to stabilize the slope and create more secure protection from potential wind
driven erosion as soon as possible. All current turbidity curtains will remain in place while this work is
being done.
