Subject: Notice of Deficiency
Permit No. AWS310713
Next Generation 3
Duplin County
Dear Ms. Sanchez -King:
This letter is in reference to the Notice of Deficiency that was given to Next Generation 3 on July 23,
2018. This correspondence is to fulfill the written response required with in the 30 day period mandated
in the notification.
First let me say that our specific geographic area has experienced extremely large rainfall levels for the
period of time that the level became high. On the 131 of May the lagoon level was at 33", but we had
10.4 inches of rain between May 16 and May 31, 2018. We are continuing even now to experience
record high rain water levels. Additionally let me emphasize that the notification to DWQ was made by
Next Generation staff to the Office of Water Quality as soon as we checked the lagoon level after a large
rain on May 31, 2018. We followed the proper protocol for this type incident. Immediately after
phoning in the lagoon level we completed and filed the proper POA. • As we stated in our plan we took
advantage of the clear days afterthe ground saturation was improved to reduce the lagoon levels by
irrigating on sunny dry days and were back within proper levels within the thirty day requirement.
As for our plan for preventing the occurrence of this again, we will diligently continue to monitor the
lagoon levels and pump the irrigation reels on all available pumping days while staying within the
available PAN for each spray field. We will continue to monitor the drinking waterers in the hog houses
to insure they are not leaking. Sprinklers will continue to be monitored to insure they are working
properly and will only be utilized at necessary times. As usual the lagoon structures will be checked
after any significant rainfall of one or more to insure no leakage.
Additionally, a new technical specialist, Barwick Ag Services, has been contracted to assist with
recommendations and any additional procedures to put into place.
It is our intent as it has always been to be good stewards of the land and to maintain proper
management techniques We work diligently to maintain our lagoons within the confines of the
regulations. Weather continues do not always permit this to occur, however we will continue to strive
to accomplish this task.
Yours truly,
Nicholas Edwards
