Inspection Summary:
Inspector Mikal Willmer, with the Asheville Regional Office, conducted a compliance evaluation inspection of the collection
system that services the Mt. Pisgah Lodge and Recreation area. This inspection was conducted to determine whether the
system is being operated and maintained in compliance with the "deemed' permitted collection system rules, 02T.0403.
Wayne Arnold (WWTP ORC) and Kevin Reeves (Backup ORC) were present and assisted in the inspection.
There were no major issues noted at the time of the inspection. The system is well maintained. This system only services
the Pisgah Inn and Restaurant and the Recreational areas. All flow is gravity fed and staff report no reported blockages or
overflows within the system to date. Maps of the sewer system are maintained. Mr. Arnold keeps as-builts within his truck in
case of any reported issues. The entire system is checked during routine maintenance annually. A formal grease program is
not practical for this type of seasonal transient facility. If grease is noted at the headworks, staff speak with restaurant
management to resolve. This is not reported to be a recurring issue. The system was videoed last year and there are plans
to GPS locate and map the entire system this year. Repairs are completed in house when feasible. System is relatively
new, approximately 20 years old. Mainly DIP and PVC, no terracotta lines. NPS should ensure there is a standard spill
control plan in place, in event of a sanitary sewer overflow.
