Granville Farms, Inc. (GFI) has prepared this letter in response to the NOV dated March
29, 2019 that was received on April 4, 2019 from the NC Department of Environmental
Quality -Division of Water Resources stating that permit condition violations were noted
during the March 26, 2019 compliance inspection and records review. Upon review of
the letter, GFI provides the following information in the same order in which we received
them in the referenced letter.
II. Performance Standards (W00000838 & W00035595) Condition 3
Birchwood RV Park is not a permitted residual source on WQ0000838 or WQ0035595.
However, residuals from Birchwood RV Park were not land applied or stored at another
facility. GFI does not land apply residuals from unpermitted sources, nor does it store
residuals from one facility at another facility under any circumstance. Residuals from
Birchwood RV Park were hauled to a larger wastewater treatment facility where they
were deposited into the headworks of the plant with incoming wastewater.
III. Operation and Maintenance Requirements (W00035595) Condition 8
GFI does not store Class B residuals at any land application site. The tanks located at the
northern end of JBS-15 are utilized to improve logistics when residuals are being applied
at the site. Trucks are off-loaded into the tanks faster than they can be emptied by land
application equipment. Emptying a truck into the tanks allows for a shorter turnaround

time, and prevents trucks from waiting in line to be emptied. As trucks are emptied into
the tanks, land application equipment is continuously emptying the tanks. At the end of
each working day all tanks are empty. Under no circumstances are residuals stored in the
tanks.
