Sutton Electric Plant Dear Mr. Newton: The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Division of Water Resources (DWR) is requesting Duke Energy (herein referred to as Duke) submit coal ash excavation plans for inactive coal ash impoundments at the Asheville Steam Electric Generating Plant, the Dan River Combined Cycle Station, Riverbend Steam Station, and the L.V. Sutton Steam Electric Plant no later than November 15, 2014. The excavation plan shall include a schedule for soil and sedimentation erosion control measures, dewatering, and the proposed location of the removed ash. The excavation plan shall provide that coal ash removal shall begin within 60 days of receiving requisite approvals by DENR. These approvals include all necessary permits and authorizations both at the excavation site and the location of the removed ash. We appreciate your attention and prompt response in this matter.
