Chris Heedick notified me by phone of the spill. I then called Ori Tuvia with NCDENR. There were no signs of diesel fuel in our influent sample that we were taking off. We decided to do a grab sample and put it in the lab refrigerator. We suspect that someone dumped on us in the early morning hours because there appeared to be no fuel in our Influent composite sample. I decided to visit all the car washes in town. As you can see in the photos, I discovered where they dumped the fuel into our system at. I then contacted our city police and had them come out to check it out and do a report about 10:48 am. The car wash had a security camera on site but it did not work. We closely monitored the plant on Friday and over the weekend. We estimate about 300 gallons was dumped in two different bays at West End car wash. I used paper towels to lower down in the grates to see if the water was contaminated. As you can see by the photos, it was contaminated. I tried calling Ori Tuvia back to let him know of my findings but didn't get him so I left a voicemail. As of Tuesday April 16, 2019 we haven't found or seen any negative effects from the dumping. We are planning to meet with the owner of the car wash and see about getting some cameras put in place just in case this ever happens again maybe we can catch them on camera. Stout, responded to 609 W Church St in reference to someone dumping diesel fuel at the car wash. Upon my arrival I spoke with City Of Cherryville employee Q _;A.Prf Wright who stated that the first stall of the car wash had diesel fuel in the drain. The Z 3rd stall had a small amount of diesel fuel in the drain as well. Mr. Wright told me that the water treatment plant had a large amount of diesel fuel in the water supply. Mr. Wright was able to show me pictures of the contaminated water at the treatment plant. Mr. Wright stated that he had checked the other car washes in town and there was no diesel fuel at them. On 04/12/2019 at approximately 1200 hours I called Clyde Webster who is the owner of the West End Car Wash. I informed Mr. Webster of the incident and was requesting video footage from the security camera. Mr. Webster informed me that the video camera at that location was not working. There are no suspects at this time.
