The Corps has reviewed the applicants request for an extension of the in-water work
moratorium on Bridge 249 (Hawkins Beach Rd.). After coordination with the
appropriate resource agencies, the Corps finds the purpose and need for the request (as
described in an email of 12 February 2019) has merit. This transmission serves as official
notification that the work, as described, may proceed as proposed and shall be
accomplished on or before March 1, 2019.

Hi Kenny,
The DCM has considered your email request received February 12, 2019 to allow the
sheet pile to be removed from around the end bents of Beaufort Bridge 249 up to two
weeks after the in-water work moratorium takes effect. The request indicted that the
sheet pile would be pulled out with an excavator or crane, but that a vibratory hammer
would not be utilized as part of the removal process. The DCM has determined, after
consultation with the appropriate resource agencies, that the work may proceed as
requested. This email shall serve as official notification that the work shall be
accomplished on or before March 1, 2019. Please let me know if you have any
questions regarding this email or if I may be of any further assistance with this project.
Sincerely,
Stephen Lane

Stephen,
Per our earlier conversation regarding Bridge 249 on Hawkins Beach Road in Beaufort
County, the contractor has asked to have some relief on the front end of the
moratorium in order the to remove sheeting from around the end bents of the
permanent structure. Like we discussed yesterday, the contractor will install the
sheeting prior to the beginning of the moratorium to facilitate the unclassified structure
excavation and would like to remove the sheeting up to 2 weeks after the moratorium is
in effect. While the sheeting is still in place, the contractor will complete all work
required by the plans for this structure. Once all work has been completed, the
contractor will remove all of the sheeting using a track excavator or the crane, no
vibratory hammer will be used to remove the sheeting."
