SHEET 1
PROJECT ADMINISTRATION
1) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE AT LEAST ONE FULL-TIME, ON-SITE
SUPERINTENDENT FOR THIS PROJECT. THE PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT SHALL BE
APPROVED BY THE TOWN BASED ON REFERENCES AND PRIOR PROJECTS WITH THE
TOWN. THE PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT SHALL BE ON-SITE FOR ALL
CONSTRUCTION -RELATED ACTIVITIES FROM CLEARING TO SITE RESTORATION.
THE PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT SHALL NOT BE REPLACED EXCEPT BY WRITTEN
APPROVAL FROM THE OWNER.
2) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ISSUING DOOR HANGERS AS
SPECIFIED TO NOTIFY PROPERTY OWNERS DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY CONSTRUCTION
OF IMPENDING WORK. THE CONTRACTOR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DISTURB
PROPERTY WITHOUT FIRST ISSUING THE PUBLIC NOTIFICATIONS AS SPECIFIED AT
LEAST 3 -DAYS PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION IN AN AREA.
3) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROCURING ALL OF THE
NECESSARY EQUIPMENT TO PERFORM THE CONTRACTED WORK. THERE WILL BE
NO ADDITIONAL PAYMENTS FOR EQUIPMENT OR RENTAL EQUIPMENT THAT THE
CONTRACTOR DOES NOT HAVE, SUCH AS TRENCH SHIELDS, BYPASS PUMPS,
BACKHOES, DUMP TRUCKS, ETC.
SEWER CONSTRUCTION
1) ALL SEWER LINES SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED AT THE LINES AND GRADES AS SHOWN
ON THE PLANS. WITHIN REASONABLE LIMITS, ANY SEWER CONSTRUCTION NOT
INSTALLED AT THE GRADES SHOWN ON THE PLANS SHALL BE SUBJECT TO
REJECTION BY THE OWNER.
2) DUCTILE IRON PIPE APPROVED BY THE TOWN OF CARY IS REQUIRED FOR THE
CONSTRUCTION OF ALL SEWER MAINS UNDER THIS PROJECT.
3) ALL SEWER MAIN CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE TESTED AS SPECIFIED INCLUDING
VIDEO ASSESSMENT AND CLEANING.
4) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BACKFILL AND COMPACT ALL TRENCHES WITH SUITABLE
MATERIAL AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE
PREPARED TO REMOVE UNSUITABLE MATERIAL FROM THE SITE AT NO
ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER IF THE ENGINEER DETERMINES THE NATIVE
BACKFILL MATERIALS ARE UNSUITABLE.
5) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL IMPLEMENT TRENCH PROTECTION METHODS
ACCEPTABLE TO THE ENGINEERING INSPECTOR AND OSHA WHEN THE TRENCH
DEPTH EXCEEDS 4 -FT AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT EXTEND TRENCH WIDTH BEYOND THE EASEMENT
BOUNDARY.
MANHOLE CONSTRUCTION
1 ALL MANHOLE EXTERIOR JOINTS SHALL BE WRAPPED WITH AN APPROVED SEALING
PRODUCT SUCH AS INFI-SHIELD SEAL WRAP OR AN APPROVED EQUIVALENT
PRODUCT.
2) THE EXTERIOR OF ALL MANHOLES CONSTRUCTED INSIDE THE 100 -YR FLOOD PLAIN
SHALL RECEIVE AN EXTERIOR COATING OF AN APPROVED BITUMASTIC COAT FOR
EPDXY OR AN APPROVED EPDXY COATING AT 40 -MILS.
3) ALL MANHOLE CONNECTIONS FOR VENTS, EXISTING MANHOLES, ETC., SHALL BE
CORED WITH A CONCRETE CORING MACHINE.
SITE RESTORATION
1) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SEED, MULCH, FERTILIZE, LIME AND TACK ALL
DISTURBED AREAS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.
2) ALL CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS SHALL BE PROMPTLY REMOVED FROM THE SITE AS
SPECIFIED IN THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.
3) ALL STREETS WITH MUD AND DIRT DEPOSITED BY THE CONTRACTORS EQUIPMENT
SHALL BE CLEANED REGULARLY OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER AT NO
ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER.
4) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING ANY PRIVATE FENCING
OR LANDSCAPE STRUCTURES DISTURBED DURING CONSTRUCTION AT NO
ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER.
GENERAL NOTES
1) EXISTING UTILITY LOCATIONS SHOWN ON THE PLANS ARE APPROXIMATE. SHOULD
ADJUSTMENTS OF PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS BE NECESSARY TO AVOID EXISTING
UTILITIES, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE SUCH ADJUSTMENTS WITH THE
ENGINEER BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE WORK.
2) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLIANCE WITH ALL
REGULATORY AGREEMENTS AND PERMITS THAT HAVE BEEN ACQUIRED BY THE
OWNER. FAILURE TO COMPLY SHALL SERVE AS A BASIS TO ISSUE FINES BY THE
CONTROLLING LEGAL AUTHORITY. PAYMENT OF THESE FINES WILL BE THE
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR.
3) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING
CONSTRUCTION STAKING BY A PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR LICENSED IN THE
STATE OF NC. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE LOCATION OF ALL UTILITIES
BEFORE BEGINNING CONSTRUCTION BY STAKING THE PROJECT. CONSTRUCTION
WORK SHALL NOT OCCUR WITHOUT ADEQUATE STAKING.
4) ALL CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LATEST REVISION OF
THE TOWN OF CARY'S "STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS AND DETAILS" AND THE NORTH
CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION'S "STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR
ROADS AND STRUCTURES", UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED BY THE PLANS.
5) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONFINE ALL CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS WITHIN THE
RIGHT-OF-WAY, EASEMENTS, OR CONSTRUCTION LIMITS AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE COMPLETELY AND SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY
ENCROACHMENT ONTO PRIVATE PROPERTY OR ENVIRONMENTAL BUFFERS
REGULATED BY THE STATE. THE TOWN OF CARY SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
AGREEMENTS BETWEEN THE CONTRACTOR AND PRIVATE PROPERTY OWNERS.
6) ALL MONUMENTATION DISTURBED BY THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE REPLACED BY
THE CONTRACTOR IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. ANY
PROPERTY IRONS THAT ARE RELOCATED DURING THE PROPOSED WORK SHALL BE
SET FOLLOWING CONSTRUCTION BY A PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR. NO
DIRECT PAYMENT WILL BE MADE FOR SUCH RELOCATIONS.
7) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVING AND REPLACING
STREET SIGNS, STORM DRAINAGE PIPES AND OTHER RELATED ITEMS DISTURBED
DURING CONSTRUCTION. ALL ITEMS SHALL BE REPLACED IN THEIR ORIGINAL
LOCATION AND CONDITION. NO DIRECT PAYMENT SHALL BE MADE FOR SUCH
RELOCATIONS.
8) EXCAVATED OR CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL SHALL NOT BE STORED ON PAVED
AREAS. EXCAVATED MATERIALS SHALL BE STOCKPILED AWAY FROM THE
ROADWAY. NO MATERIALS SHALL BE STOCKPILED INSIDE THE NCDOT
RIGHT-OF-WAY.
9) IN CASES WHERE EXCAVATED OR CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS MUST BE
STOCKPILED, THEY SHALL BE RELOCATED WITHIN 5 CONSECUTIVE CALENDAR
DAYS OF PLACEMENT.
10) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING AND REPLACING
PAVEMENT DAMAGED BY CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT AT NO ADDITIONAL COST
TO THE OWNER.
11) UTILITY SERVICE DISRUPTIONS ARE NOT ALLOWED FOR THIS PROJECT.
12) SHOULD THE CONTRACTOR DAMAGE ANY EXISTING TOWN OF CARY UTILITIES,
INCLUDING WATER, SEWER AND STORM DRAINAGE INFRASTRUCTURE, THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY THE TOWN INSPECTOR AND
THE TOWN OF CARY PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE
COMPLETELY AND SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COMPLETE RESTORATION OF
THE DAMAGED UTILITIES INCLUDING TEMPORARY REPAIRS MADE BY THE
CONTRACTOR OR THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT.
13) SHOULD CONTRACTOR DAMAGE ANY EXISTING UTILITIES OWNED BY OUTSIDE UTILITY
PROVIDERS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL IMMEDIATELY CONTACT THE UTILITY OWNERS
AND SCHEDULE REPAIRS. THE TOWN OF CARY SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
THE UTILITY DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
14) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE COMPLETELY AND SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR
MAINTAINING SITE SAFETY AND ENFORCING ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE,
AND LOCAL SAFETY REGULATIONS.
15) TRAFFIC CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR AS
OUTLINED IN THE NCDOT, "MANUAL FOR UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES"
AND THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.
16) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE COMPLETELY AND SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR FINAL
SITE CLEANUP AND SITE REHABILITATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONTRACT
DOCUMENTS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR RESTORING SITE
DRAINAGE THAT EXISTED PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
17) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCESSING THE SITE AS SPECIFIED.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT ASSUME THAT DRAINAGE EASEMENTS WILL BE
ALLOWED AS ACCESS POINTS TO THE SITE.
18) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED TO BLOCK STREETS WITH
UNATTENDED VEHICLES OR STOCKPILED MATERIALS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE
RESPONSIBLE FOR MOVING UNDERUTILIZED OR UNUSED EQUIPMENT AWAY FROM
THE SITE.
19) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL ALL SILT FENCE AND EROSION CONTROL
MEASURES AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS. DURING THE CONSTRUCTION WORK, IF
ADDITIONAL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES, SUCH AS SILT FENCE, ARE NECESSARY
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL THEM AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.

EROSION CONTROL
GENERAL NOTES
1. ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL DEVICES, PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES MUST MEET
THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OUTLINED IN THE NORTH CAROLINA EROSION AND SEDIMENT
CONTROL PLANNING AND DESIGN MANUAL AND THE SEDIMENTATION POLLUTION CONTROL ACT OF
1973 AND ASSOCIATED RULES AS AMENDED.
2. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSURE THAT ADEQUATE STORAGE AREA AND MAINTENANCE ACCESSES ARE
PROVIDED FOR PROPOSED SILT FENCES. SILT FENCE SHALL BE INSTALLED A MINIMUM DISTANCE
OF 10 FEET FROM THE TOE OF SLOPE WHERE FEASIBLE OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.
3. INLET PROTECTION (IP) SHALL CONFORM TO NCDOT DETAIL 1632.03 & TOWN OF CARY DETAIL
04000.14, AND 04000.19 OR OTHER APPROVED DEVICES.
4. STOCKPILING OF MATERIALS SHALL BE PROVIDED OFFSITE BY CONTRACTOR. CONTRACTOR SHALL
BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING A 0.10 ACRE SITE FOR STOCKPILING AND BORROW MATERIAL
CONTRACTOR SHALL PROTECT SITE BY PROVIDING NECESSARY EROSION CONTROL DEVICES
INCLUDING SILT FENCE, SILT FENCE OUTLETS AND PROVIDING NECESSARY SEEDING AND MULCHING
AS REQUIRED BY TOWN OF CARY STANDARDS, TO PERMANENTLY STABILIZE SITE.
5. ANY BORROW OR WASTE SITE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THIS PROJECT SHOULD CONFORM TO
THE STATE MINING ACT.
6. THERE WILL BE NO STREAM CROSSINGS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PROJECT AS ACCESS IS
ADEQUATE TO EITHER SIDE OF STREAM.
