Good Morning Sarah,
I just wanted to touch base with an explanation for NOD-2019-LV-0054 issued to Monterey Shores WWTP (permit
WQ009772). During the months of October through December 2018, one of our air actuator valves and control
software became inoperable so that Dissolved Oxygen levels in the aeration basin could not be completely controlled
through the PLC. Operators regulated air flow manually, but with relatively low, off-season flows and erratic
temperatures, maintaining a steady DO level was challenging. As a result, we were not able to consistently foster
conditions so that complete nitrification could take place. All necessary repairs have been made to the control system
and the actuator valve has been replaced, and Total Nitrogen results are now consistently below permit limits.
Respectfully,
Carallna Water Seri ice
