It was observed that waste samples had not been collected within the required timeframes and saplings were growing on the lagoon dikes- - In addition, one waste application held had competition with other grasses resulting in a poor stand of bermuda grass_ In regard to the deficiencies noted during the inspection, the following actions are requested: Consult with a tecl-mical specialist for assistance with the control of competition from other grasses in the waste application field. 2. Remove the young trees (saplings) from the lagoon banks. Collect waste samples within 60 days of waste application or every 120 days (quarterly) to insure compliance. Stevens, Director March 19.2001 CERTIFIED MAIL RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED Mr. Ray Beasley 38 Turkey Oak Farm Road White Oak, NC 2839-9 SUBJECT: NOTICE OF DEFICIENCY Turkey Oak Nursery Facility No. 09 - 63 Bladen County Dear Mr. Beasley: On March 15, 2001, staff from the Fayetteville Regional Office of the Division of Water Quality, conducted an inspection of the Turkey Oak Nursery Farm in Bladen County. The inspection revealed that the farm had over applied plant available nitrogen (PAN) on the winter small grain by approximately 9 pounds as a result of a new waste plan written to wettable acres. The Division of Water Quality requests that the following items be addressed: Review the new Certified Waste Management Plan and familiarize yourself with the new PAN rates and the wettable acres to prevent future over -application issues.
