Inspection Summary:
On 3/26/19 a compliance inspection of the wastewater treatment and disposal system for the Currituck Co. Detention Center
(WQ0000550) was performed by R. Sipe w/ WQROS-WaRO. Also present were Glenn Vance and Rod Holley with Currituck
Co. The inspection items included the following:
Observed headworks area. Barscreen and influent punp station appeared well maintained and operational. Alarm for influent
pump station was tested and found operational.
The facultative lagoon appeared to be operating as designed. The freeboard was 2.6 feet. Some duckweed was present on
the lagoon but only covered approx. 1/4 of its area. The synthetic liner was in adequate condition despite some tears
present near the anchor point noted in previous inspections. The County has stated that they plan on closing the facility in
the next few months.
The flow meter was last calibrated on 9/27/18.
The liquid chlorine disinfection system appears to be operating adequately. Last effluent results (11/18) were well below the
Fecal Coliform limit.
The spray fields appeared to be in adequate condition. According to the Mr. Holley, the irrigation system was last operated
on 3/25/19 but only briefly to collect effluent samples. Prior to that, it was last operated on 3/8/19. Monitoring wells
appeared to be in adequate condition.
Record keeping and reporting were spot checked. NDMR, NDAR, and GW -59s for Nov. 2018 were compared with lab
reports and found to be complete and accurate. Operational logs are kept electronically on the County network.
The facility appeared to be in compliance with permit# W00000550 during the inspection.
