Basin
Original issue driver - cattle trampling impacts
Recent WQ buffer site addition 200'W
SHPO identified dam remanents to remain undisturbed
Site easement section not fenced off - cattle removed from abutting pasture
Bankfull events typically —4 per yr, but 15 events in last year
Hurricane Florence - historic peak
E II section 2.5:1 ratio - tree down, debris build up across stream, upstream from rock toe construction
EI transition- raised bed; regraded bench; in stream structures j -hook, log good angle; riffle run (stone
minded onsite) partially covered, cadisflies & mayflies easilyfound,
Some scour, would like to see more veg along bank - add live stakes?
Concern about lack of trees present on bench, no canopy present - beaver impacts? Functional uplift?
A few structure blow outs - log toe with rock riffle
2016-2017 beaver dam removals - how long were they active, again concern about woody stem loss
Multiple cattle slides left in/untreated (would have liked a brush toe)- more of an Ell approach
Culvert- would have preferred squashed pipe, floodplain pipes, road dip for overbank flow
Restoration segment - recent beaver de-veg and flooding impacts - doesn't look good for yr 5 (scour,
low/no canopy)
Abundant sweet gum volunteers across the site
Some recent live stakes added
Tributary connect over log vain - Travis said looks ok
Bank fail across from southeast branch - regrade, fescue & juncus
Ell transition - minor deer browse
West Branch - adjacent landowner cleared land verified outside easement
Working with Stewardship in land beyond easement - language regarding stewardship transfer of private
land in front on AG
West Branch Ell - back flow from main stem (beaver downstream), no veg (live stakes growth) along bank,
not very stable/successful, bank movement back 1 + foot, also significant deposit - request live stakes?
Southeast Branch - abundant trees on bank and in buffer; standing water areas in buffer, fence in good
condition
Culvert perched at crossing (SE Branch) - Wildlands to check as built
EI - algae present, nutrient loading; wide pools, restricted riffles, exposed log vain
Restoration segment (b/w SE & S Branch) - Evidence of long time empoundment - maintenance issue
South Branch - may ly found, wetland area, bank well vegetated
Byrd's Creek - stability assessment? How much of project has bare bank?
Replant upper area (EI to restoration)- live stakes bank, plant 10-20' of bench, manage beaver for 1 yr
Beaver discussion- intensive effort after finding beaver- monitoring & tramping, then possibly scale back,
use private tramping companies if USDA not responsive
Action Items
Replant including live stakes and some containers, manage beaver
Reportwith photos, transects within replanted zones (no plot monitoring required)
No stream data monitoring required - visual, 360 video tour before/after
Closeout postponed
