Outfall 005 Notification of WWTS Commencement of Discharge
Dear Dr. Chernikov and Mr. Heim:
With reference to Part I A. (29) of the subject permit, this letter provides notification that the new
waste water treatment system (WWTS) for Outfall 005 is scheduled to discharge treated wastewater
by March 31, 2019. The decanting of the ash basin is not planned to be routed to the new WWTS
and is to discharge to the Broad River via Outfall 002. A decision on whether to route the ash basin
dewatering (interstitial water) to the new WWTS will be made later.
As required by SOC No. S 17-009 decanting of the ash basin is to begin by March 31, 2019. Prior to
the start of decanting, all wastewater flows that currently discharge to the ash basin will cease
discharging to the ash basin and begin to discharge to the new WWTS. The new WWTS is in the
process of being functionally tested. As a precaution, a temporary back-up WWTS is being installed
adjacent to the new WWTS. If the need for additional testing and/or modifications are identified for
the permanent WWTS during the functional testing, this temporary system will be able to process the
wastewater that currently discharges to the ash basin. Both WWTSs will discharge to the Broad
River via Outfall 005.
