The existing bridge consists of a reinforced concrete floor on timber joists, with (Description of Minimization of Water end bents and internal bents on timber caps and timber piers. The existing bridge was constructed in 1970. Multiple beams have areas of decay to the point where maintenance Quality Impacts) activities cannot extend the life of the structure. Additionally, the structure is considered structurally deficient due to deck, superstructure, and substructure condition ratings of 5, with an overall sufficiency rating of 53.08. The bridge is approaching he end of its useful life. Replacement of the bridge will result in safer traffic operations. The proposed bridge is a 2-span (1 @45', 1@35') 21" cored slab with 2'-6" end bent cap on south end and vertical abutment on north end. The proposed bridge does not require deck drains and does not discharge directly into the river. Runoff leaving the bridge deck is collected by inlet at the north end, and conveyed to a rip-rap pad at outlet, which diffuses the flow into the floodplain before entering Browns Creek. Roadway drainage runs off on either side of the proposed roadway and disperses into wetlands and or natural ground. Construction of the new bridge will take place while an off-site detour maintains traffic. Bank stabilization rip rap will be installed as necessary to prevent streambank degradation.
