On November 11, 2009, Clariant Corporation reported a release from our Mount Holly West Plant.
Below is a written follow-up summary of this release.

The exact time of the release is unknown. It was discovered on November 11, 2009, at 09:45.
Based on our investigation, we believe that the release began sometime between 07:30 and 09:45.
Type/Quantity/Source of Material:
Neither the type nor the quantity of material released is known. Based on our investigation, we
believe that the source of the release was the roof of our Plant 5 production building. Residues of
process chemicals were discovered on the roof. The roof drains to our permitted stormwater
outfall # 006, which discharges into the Catawba River. Most likely the residues came from
inadvertent discharges of process chemicals through vents which terminate on the roof. Based on
our observations, we believe that the quantity actually released into the river was less than 10
pounds. No reportable quantities were exceeded.

Damage/Injuries:
No injuries have been reported. Based on the quantity of material released and our observations
of the outfall and the river, no environmental impacts are suspected.
Actions Taken:
The release was stopped within two minutes of being discovered. A gate was closed to prevent
any more stormwater from discharging through outfall # 006. All stormwater headed towards
this outfall was pumped to our on -site wastewater pre-treatment facility. To prevent a recurrence,
the roof will be cleaned before any more roof water is released through the outfall. Operational
and engineering modifications are being evaluated to determine how to prevent any similar events
in the future.

NRC forwarded report regarding Clariant Corp reporting an unknown amount of some type of foam
released from their facility that is causing a sheen on their outfall. Remedial action were performed
by shutting gate at outfall, pumping storm water to wastewater treatment facility and material
dissipated.
