On behalf of Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department, please find enclosed a
Shoreline Stabilization Application Form for the stabilization of an eroding shoreline at Ramsey
Creek Park Swim Beach. The Study Area for the project consists of 1841f of eroding shoreline
between the existing Swim Beach and Existing Public Boating Access Ramp. The shoreline had
previously been stabilized with small rip rap or ballast, but this has failed along approximately 1301f
and requires enhancement along an additional 541f. Duke Energy has recommended the use of
Enhanced Boulders for the portion where there has been a complete failure and supplementing
Ballast with Buttonbush plantings for the remainder.
There are a number of existing Buttonbush (Cepahalnthus occidentalis) shrubs along the shore-
line that will be preserved and supplemented with plantings of the same species. Approximately 130
If of the shoreline will be stabilized with the Enhanced Boulders and the remaining 541f will be
stabilized by adding to the existing Ballast with additional Ballast and Buttonbush plantings. All
work will be conducted from land. Duke Energy personnel have conducted multiple site visits to
review the conditions has approved of the proposed plan for stabilization.
