The area surrounding the e�sting bridge is a mixof urban/suburban uses, with marshes and forests along stream corridors.

Geotechnical soil borings will be advanced in the streambed of Northeast Creek upstream of the exsting NC 24 bridge to determine what bent type to use in the replacement structure.
Impacts associated with access improvements to NC 24 and the replacement of bridge no. 7 as part of LL5741 are not authorized or included in this permit application.

Ten soil borings are proposed to be advanced in the streambed of Northeast Creek using a drill rig set on a barge. The borings will be advanced using the mud rotary method. This
method involves setting a piece of 4° or 6" diameter casing between the drill rig and the river bed to contain the drilling fluid and cutting returns. All soil samples, drilling fluid, and cutting
returns are disposed of off-site.

Northeast Creek is designated as a primary nursery area, and as such carries an in-water work moratorium between February 15 and September 30. The NC 24 bridge crossing of
Northeast Creek also marks the boundary between coastal and inland waters. In coordination with the NC Division of Marine Fisheries and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, the
activities authorized by this permit are allow�d to be conducted during the in-water work moratorium (see attached email responses).
