Inspection Summary:
The inspection was conducted by Beverly Price of the Asheville Regional Office. Regina Mathis, Tom Shook and Travis
McCall assisted with the inspection.
The Fats, Oils & Greases (FOG) brochure should be included on the Town's website.
The ORC reports that the 24 hour notification sign for the new WWTP influent lift station is on order.
The following issues have been addressed since the last inspection:
The influent pump station to the WWTP was replaced in 2018. The replacement of this pump station should help alleviate
the SSO’s that were occurring at MH #2 located just prior to the WWTP.
The collection system map is almost complete. The approximate pipe age, material and pump station locations have been
added. The ORC indicated that the number of service taps and pump station capacities are in the process of being added to
the map.
The following actions have been taken by the Town to further address collection system issues:
There have been repeat SSO’s at MH #27B Everette St. during the last 12 months. The Town is in the process of updating
(will require lockable spring-loaded sewer caps for campsites with sewer connections) the Sewer Use Ordinance to address
inflow from local campgrounds in flood prone areas.
The Town purchased a vac truck and camera system in 2018.
A by-pass pump is now available and dedicated for use in collection system maintenance.
The Town will begin smoke testing the collection system in March.
The Town is working with McGill & Associates to update the CIP. The Town has applied for an CBDG to address I&I at
Carringer St. This is the number one priority in the CIP for the collection system.
The Town has applied for an Asset Inventory & Assessment Grant to conduct a comprehensive I&I evaluation of the
collection system.
