On December 12, 2018, Joan Schneier of the NC Division of Water Resources, Water Quality Regional
Operations Section, Raleigh Regional Office conducted a compliance inspection in support of permit
renewal. Brandon Byers of RRO and Ranveer Katyal of the Non- Discharge Permitting Unit also assisted.
On the date inspected, most of the components checked were working but the field and fence were not
evaluated due to snow and ice cover. A follow-up inspection to check the field was done on February 15,
2019 by Joan Schneier and Brion Byers.
During the December inspection, the ultraviolet disinfection bulb worked and the high- water alarms were
checked from panel lights. The Advantex pod seemed to be getting an even spray. The headworks box
was flooded. The owner supplied notes from the AQWA maintenance visit of November 27, 2018. Sludge
levels in the tank were moderate. Filters and lines were cleaned, and the UV bulb replaced. Dose and
pressure rates were reasonably consistent across the three zones. The rain sensor had shorted out but was
repaired on January 18, 2019, per documentation from the owner and AQWA.
During the follow-up visit, two minor leaks were found and marked with yellow wire flags. The fence
wires were intact, but a few tree tops should be removed from the top wire. Vegetation and fence
management are responsibilities of the home owner and not covered by the AQWA contract.
Please have AQWA fix the leaks during their next scheduled visit and let me know when that is done.
