RE: ENGINEER'S CERTIFICATI®N
Bogue Watch to Cannonsgate WWTF Interconnect
Wastewater Collection System Extension
Aqua North Carolina
Carteret County
DEQ Permit No. WQ0037078
Dear Mr. Thornburg:
Aqua America Inc. (Aqua) is pleased to present the engineer's certification for the above
referenced project. The proposed project includes the installation of nearly 5,000 linear feet
of 4" diameter force main to interconnect the Bogue Watch WWTF to the Cannonsgate
WWTF in accordance with permit WQ0037078. In addition to the force main, the existing
triplex pump station located at the Bogue Watch WWTF was upgraded with new pumps to
convey raw sewage collected at the Bogue Watch facility to the Cannonsgate WWTF. The
proposed project has been constructed in substantial conformance with the approved plans
and specifications, with the exception of force main material. Due to site conditions and high
costs of a ductile iron force main, value engineering was performed and resulted in the
installation of SDR -18, &900 PVC pipe, Class 51 DI pipe, and SDR -9 HDPE pipe. The
materials used for construction were selected to conform with Section 4 of NCDEQ's
Minimum Design Criteria for the Permitting of Pump Stations and Force Mains.
Please find the following information attached to this letter:
1. Engineer's Certification
2. Bogue Watch Flow Equalization Triplex Pump Station calculations.
3. Force Main Material Submittals
4. Record indicating the force main alignment and pipe material.

Bowe Watch Force Main — Calculations
Attempt to determine the flow the existing pumps at the Bogue Watch EQ basin will produce.
Based on information from the publication "Hydraulic Analysis of Ductile Iron Pipe" (published 11-
1997, revised 7-2006) published by the Ductile Iron Pipe Research Association (DIPRA), a "C" value of
140 was used for the Ductile Iron Pipe (see attached documentation).
Raw Sewage Calculations
This is the design calculations for the new pumps that will be installed in the Bogue Watch EQ basin
to pump raw sewage to the EQ basin at the Cannonsgate WWTP. All three existing pumps at the Bogue
Watch EQ basin will be replaced with the new pumps.

Submersible Sewage Pump as submersble,•single-stage block unit in stationary, vertical Installation to pump untreated
sewage which doesn't attack the pump neither chemically nor mechanically. Pump w ith radially arranged discharge piece
and axial pump intake. Service -friendly design by separated motor and pump casing. Pumping values to be guaranteed as
per ISO 9906 Annex A
Submersible motor in pressure -resistant design, w ith internal, herrn atically-tight active cooling w Rh highly efficient heat
exchanger, double mechanical shaft seal in EMU block design, as w ell as separate sealing chamber. The motor chamber and
the sealing chamber are f filed w ith medical w hhe oil. Motor sealing at the shaft by a double, w ear -resistant mechanical shaft
seal independent of the direction of rotation entirely made of silicon -carbide as closed unit in EMU sealing cartridge of
stainless steel w ith intermediate separation chamber and additional shaft sealing ring.
Both seals are cooled and lubricated. The motor chamber is equipped w ith connecting term nals. Protection of the motor
w inding by thermistors installed. Both closed ball bearings are maintenance -free and filled w ith high-quality grease. All
casing parts are of cast iron. Shaft and connecting elements are of stainless steel. The motor is suitable for continuous
operation (sl) under full load in Immerged and completely emerged condition.

Calculations below are to consider the volume of the existing EQ basin at Bogue Watch.
The existing EQ basin at Bogue Watch has an existing area of 448 square feet. The current high
water float is set at elevation 40.25' and the current low water float is set at elevation 26.25'

Based on the permitted flow from the Bogue Watch WWTP (WQ0029821) of 150,000 gpd, this
means the EQ basin will fill up and the pumps need to run approximately 3 times per day.
We propose the foll
owing design criteria:
We are designing the pump and flows for 80,000 gpd coming from Bogue Watch. If the
flows approach 80,000 gpd, we will begin analysis to see if more powerful pumps are
necessary (see project narrative).
® We propose setting the High Water Elevation 3 feet above the low water float. This will give
a storage volume of approximately 10,000 gallons. This means that the EQ basin will need to
be pumped about eight (8) times a day.
® As the EQ basin volume is quite large compared to the total flow in, we believe that a
peaking factor will not be necessary, as the flow will balance out over the day.
The EQ basin already has existing odor control install
