B-4916 - Bertie County Bridge #57
Per our previous conversation, the proposed off-site detour route for replacement of Bridge #57 is primarily SR 1315
(Sally Freeman Rd.).
Based on the NCDOT Pavement Condition survey, this road currently varies in width from 18-20' and carries an
estimated 700-800 vehicles per day. If US 13 were detoured onto this roadway, it would have to carry an estimated
3,500 vehicles per day with a relatively high percentage of truck traffic. It's narrow width presents a safety concern,
given the truck traffic and use by school buses.
Additionally, like most secondary roads in Division One, this route has limited pavement structure and would significant
strengthening to accommodate the truck traffic anticipated if used for a detour route.
For these reasons, the Division is not in favor of detouring traffic onto SR 1315 and requests an on-site detour be used
for construction of this project.
If you have questions or need additional information, please let me know.
Thanks,
