Re: Notice of Violation & Intent to Assess Civil Penalty
Tracking Number: NOV-2019-DV-0015
The Town of Rhodhiss had two self -reported Sanitary Sewer Overflows on December
20t1' and 28th The Town is working on steps to reduce the sewer system's inflow and
infiltration issues during heavy rain events that contributed to both of these incidents.
Listed below are some recent steps the Town of Rhodhiss has taken in regards to
improving the sanitary sewer system.
1) The Town has secured the services of West Consultants, John Abernathy, as our
new Wastewater ORC in December of 2018.
2) The Town has recently finished over $1 million of sewer related construction to
fix our aging sewer infrastructure
3) Current plans are being developed with West Consultant's to identify the most
critical areas taken out of this last CDBG sewer project and locating new areas
4) The Town plans to spend an additional $500,000 on sewer infrastructure that
should go out to bid in 2019
5) The Town has begun to use our holding tanks located at the Town's old filter beds
as a means of temporary storage during high volume rain events.
The Town of Rhodhiss will continue to take the necessary steps to improve upon our
sewer system. The Town will continue to invest in our sewer system, which is the only
long term solution to reducing the current inflow and infilitration during heavy rain
events.
Sincerely,
Chris Wago r
Town Manager
