SUMMARY OF HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPES REVIEW
Description of review activities, results, anrl conclusions: HPOWeb reviewed on 22 August 2017
and yielded no NR, SL, LD, DE, or SS properties in the Area of Potential Effects (APE). Bladen County
current GIS mapping, aerial photography, and tax information indicated a mostly wooded APE with
several residential resources dating from the late 1960s to the 1980s located towards either end of the
APE (viewed 22 August 2017). Constructed in 1970, Bridge No. 178 is not eligible for the National
Register as it is neither technologically nor aesthetically significant. Google Maps "Street View" confirmed
the absence of critical architectural and landscape resources in the APE (viewed 22 August 2017).
No architectural survey is required for the project as currently defined.
Whv the available information provides a reliable basis for reasonablv pre�lictin� that there
nre no unidenti�e�l si�nifcant historic architectural or landscane resources in t/ae proiect
area: APE extends 600 feet from either end of the existing bridge (N-S) and 150 feet to either side of the
SR 1145 (Martin Luther King Drive) centerline (E-W) to encompass proposed construction activities and
possible project impacts. No comprehensive historic architectural survey of Bladen County exists, but
other survey efforts and county GIS/tax materials and other visuals clearly illustrate the absence of
significant architectural and landscape resources in the APE. No National Register-listed properties are
located within the APE.
Should the design change, please notify NCDOT Historic Architecture
as additional review may be necessary.
