On January 30, 2019, Eric Alsmeyer of the Corps of Engineers, Chad Coggins and John
Thomas of NCDOT, conducted a telephone conference concerning compensatory
mitigation for jurisdictional wetland mechanized clearing associated with the TIP W-
5600 US 70 road improvement project, Wilson Mills, Johnston County, NC. It was
discussed that the referenced mechanized clearing would result in the installation of
erosion control devices for the proposed project. It was further discussed that once the
project was completed and disturbed areas include in the project were stabilization, the
erosion control devices would be removed, the area revegetated, and allowed to return to
a natural vegetated state. This being the case, Mr. Alsmeyer concurred that
compensatory mitigation would not be required for the referenced mechanized clearing
associated with this project.
