Send all suspicious email as an attachment to report.spam@nc.gov<mailto:report.spam@nc.gov> Good afternoon Mr. Reynolds, The City of Winston Salem did not approve an aerial crossing initially proposed to serve the Sedge Hollow Phase 3 development due to excessive height of the crossing. Please see attached for the plan and profile. The sewer main at the aerial crossing would have been over 20' above the ground and maintenance of such a crossing would have been extremely difficult for our Field Operations as equipment required to reach the sewer main is not readily available. We have been given delegated authority by NCDEQ for the operation and maintenance of our wastewater collection system extensions in accordance with 15A NCAC 2H .0218. As part of our responsibility, we need to have the ability to repair the sewer main in a timely manner in response to any sanitary sewer overflows. Our efforts to remain in compliance with NCDEQ's regulations are the main reason for the rejection of the proposed aerial crossing. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions. It is the Corps' understanding the City of Winston-Salem would not authorize an aerial stream crossing which may result in no permanent stream impacts. It is the Corps' understanding the City of Winston-Salem would not authorize an aerial stream crossing which may result in no permanent stream impacts. However, the city required this sewer line to be buried which will result in permanent stream impacts. Therefore, can you please provide justification as to why an aerial crossing cannot be utilized for this project.
