1. CONTRACTOR TO UTILIZE TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES TO INSTALL UPSTREAM PORTION
OF 36" PIPE FOR TEMPORARY DRAIN.
2. INSTALL NEW JERSEY MEDIAN BARRIER OR APPROVED ALTERNATIVE CONTROLS FOR DIVERTING
TRAFFIC WHILE DOWNSTREAM END OF TEMPORARY DRAIN, AND THEN BOX CULVERT IS INSTALLED.
GRAVEL SHOULDER ALONG THE LAKE SHOULD BE BUILT UP AS NEEDED. MINIMUM ELEVEN-FOOT
WIDTH OF CLEARANCE MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES FOR FIRE TRUCK ACCESS.
3. AFTER DOWNSTREAM CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE, BARRIERS AND SIGNAGE SHOULD BE RELOCATED
FOR MOVING ONE-WAY TRAFFIC TO THE DOWNSTREAM SIDE OF THE ROAD.
4. UPON COMPLETION OF BOX CULVERT AND REMOVAL OF UPSTREAM END OF 36" TEMPORARY
PIPE, CONCRETE BARRIERS CAN BE REMOVED AND TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES USED TO
FACILITATE REMOVAL OF REMAINDER OF PIPE AND RE-PAVING OF THE ROAD.

EROSION & SEDIMENT CONTROL SEQUENCE:
1. CONTRACTOR TO INSTALL A DOWNSTREAM CHECK DAM AT END OF PROPOSED PERMANENT STILLING
BASIN AS EROSION CONTROL MEASURE FOR CONSTRUCTION ON DOWNSTREAM SIDE.
2. DOWNSTREAM STILLING BASIN SHOULD BE EXCAVATED FOR USE AS A TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL
MEASURE ONCE NC DEQ HAS APPROVED SITE FOR CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN.
3. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT A SUMP AREA BE EXCAVATED FOR INSTALLATION OF A PUMP ROUTING
FLOWS THROUGH ONE OF THE 18" CMPS FURTHEST FROM THE PROPOSED BOX CULVERT. LAKE LEVELS
SHOULD BE DRAWN DOWN AT LEAST TO TOP OF SEDIMENT BEFORE TEMPORARY 36" PIPE IS INSTALLED.
4. 36" PIPE SHOULD THEN BE INSTALLED TO FACILITATE STORM CONVEYANCE THROUGH POND AS
PROJECT PROCEEDS. A STONE FILTER AREA, WITH A MINIMUM TWO TO THREE FOOT DEPTH BEFORE
PIPE, SHOULD BE INSTALLED UPSTREAM OF PIPE INVERTTO INHIBIT DOWNSTREAM SEDIMENT
MIGRATION.
5. DOWNSTREAM CULVERT CONSTRUCTION CAN THEN PROCEED. DOWNSTREAM SLOPES SHOULD BE
SEEDED AND STABILIZED PRIOR TO SHIFTING CONSTRUCTION TO UPSTREAM SIDE. ANY ACCUMULATED
SEDIMENTS SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM STILLING BASIN AND RIPRAP INSTALLED ON BASIN BOTTOM.
6. COFFER DAM OR SLIDE RAIL SYSTEM WILL BE INSTALLED TO FACILITATE DEWATERING AND SEDIMENT
REMOVAL FOR INSTALLATION OF UPSTREAM CULVERT, CONCRETE STRUCTURE, AND GABION WALL.
7. AFTER BOX CULVERT INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE, AND SLIDE RAIL SYSTEM IS REMOVED, 36" CPP
SHOULD BE REMOVED AND NEW ASPHALT PLACED OVER ALL DISTURBED AREAS OF SPRINGSIDE DRIVE.
8. ALL DISTURBED AREAS ARE TO BE SEEDED AND STABILIZED.

3. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL ALL TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL DEVICES WITHIN THE PROJECT AREA AS INDICATED ON THE PLANS PRIOR TO COMMENCING EARTHWORK. IF ADDITIONAL
I STAGING/STOCKPILE AREA IS REQUIRED, THE AREA MUST BE APPROVED BY THE VILLAGE AND SILT FENCE MUST BE INSTALLED BEFORE USE.
4. CONTRACTOR SHALL ENSURE THAT DRAINAGE IS DIRECTED INTO TEMPORARY SEDIMENT DEVICES THROUGHOUT THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD.
5. AS EACH PORTION OF CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE, CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL PERMANENT STABILIZATION. AT END OF PROJECT, WHEN AUTHORIZED BY THE ENGINEER, CONTRACTOR SHALL
REMOVE ALL TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL MEASURES, INSTALL PERMANENT STABILIZATION, AND RESTORE THE SITE AS SHOWN ON PLANS, OR AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE TO ORIGINAL
CONDITIONS.
6. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SOIL STABILIZATION FOR ALL DISTURBED AREAS BASED ON TIMEFRAMES SHOWN ON STABILIZATION TIMEFRAME CHART WITHIN THE SPECIFIED CALENDAR DAYS
FROM THE LAST LAND-DISTURBING ACTIVITY.
7. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACCOMMODATION AND MAINTENANCE OF BASE AND STORM FLOWS IN ALL AREAS OF THE PROJECT SITE THROUGHOUT THE CONSTRUCTION
PERIOD. IF IT IS NECESSARY TO PUMP ON-SITE FLOW DURING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES, SEE TYPICAL PUMP-AROUND DETAIL 1/ 7.1.
8. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT SITE AFTER EACH RUNOFF PRODUCING RAINFALL AND REPAIR VISIBLE EROSION. CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR AND REPLACE EROSION CONTROL DEVICES AS
NECESSARY.
9. CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE APPROPRIATE MEASURES TO PREVENT SEDIMENT FROM LEAVING SITE. STREETS AND PAVED PARKING AREAS SHALL BE SWEPT REGULARLY TO KEEP THE TRACKED
SEDIMENT FROM ENTERING THE STORM DRAINS AND STREAM.
10. ALL STREAM WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED IN THE DRY. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO ENSURE THAT SUCH REQUIREMENTS ARE SATISFIED.
11. DE-WATERING OF STRUCTURES WITH SEDIMENT-LADEN WATER DIRECTLY TO STREAMS OR STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEM IS PROHIBITED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO
ENSURE THAT SUCH PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES DO NOT OCCUR.
12. PERMANENT GROUND COVER IS REQUIRED ON ALL DISTURBED AREAS OF THE CONTRACT. MULCHING SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL AREAS REQUIRING SEEDING.
13. WHEN VEGETATION IS ESTABLISHED, CONTRACTOR SHALL CALL FOR FINAL SITE INSPECTION BY THE VILLAGE OF CLEMMONS.

1.0 DESCRIPTION
THIS WORK SHALL CONSIST OF FURNISHING AND INSTALLING ALL TEMPORARY HERBACEOUS SEED AND MULCH FOR ALL
AREAS DISTURBED BY CONSTRUCTION OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER. TEMPORARY SEEDING SHALL BE COMPLETED
WITHIN 24 HOURS OF COMPLETION OF GRADING ACTIVITIES IN ANY WORK AREA. TEMPORARY SEEDING SHALL NOT BE
REQUIRED IN AREAS IMMEDIATELY SEEDED WITH PERMANENT SEED.

SEQUENCE OF CONSTRUCTION FOR TYPICAL PUMP AROUND
1. INSTALL SPECIAL STILLING BASINS AT THE DOWNSTREAM END OF THE
DESIGNATED PROJECT WORKING AREA.
2. INSTALL THE PUMP AROUND PUMP AND THE TEMPORARY PIPING THAT
WILL CONVEY THE BASE FLOW FROM UPSTREAM OF THE WORK SITE.
3. INSTALL UPSTREAM IMPERVIOUS DIKE AND BEGIN PUMPING OPERATIONS.
4. INSTALL PUMPING APPARATUS AT THE DOWNSTREAM WORK AREA, IF
NEEDED, TO DEWATER THE WORK AREA. THE PUMP AND HOSE FOR THIS
PURPOSE SHALL BE OF SUFFICIENT SIZE TO DEWATER THE WORK AREA.
THIS WATER SHALL FLOW INTO THE SPECIAL STILLING BASIN.
5. PERFORM CULVERT REPLACEMENT WORK IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
PLAN AND FOLLOWING THE GENERAL CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE.
6. THE CONTRACTOR WILL EXCAVATE ANY ACCUMULATED SILT AND
DEWATER BEFORE REMOVAL OF THE IMPERVIOUS DIKE. REMOVE
IMPERVIOUS DIKES, PUMPS, AND TEMPORARY FLEXIBLE HOSE/PIPING
STARTING WITH THE DOWNSTREAM DIKE FIRST.
7. ONCE THE WORKING AREA IS COMPLETED, REMOVE THE STILLING BASINS
AND STABILIZE DISTURBED AREAS WITH SEED AND MULCH.
NOTES:
1. EXCAVATION SHALL BE PERFORMED IN ONLY DRY SECTIONS OF CHANNEL.
2. IMPERVIOUS DIKES SHOULD BE USED TO ISOLATE WORK AREAS AS
NEEDED.
