Dear Mr. Basinger:
Duke Energy is adding an Ultrafiltration (UF) to the existing Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD)
wastewater treatment system at the subject facility. This change was communicated to the
Division of Water Resources as part of the NPDES permit application for Allen Steam Station
dated August 31, 2017. The installation of the UF unit is scheduled to be completed in February
2019. This letter is intended to provide a courtesy notification of the process startup.
The UF system will begin testing in February. The compliance sampling location for internal
outfall 005 will not be affected by the UF system installation. The Allen Steam Station is already
classified as a Class II Physical/Chemical wastewater system so no change in classification is
necessary.
