Mr. Adkins:
Thank you for reaching out to us with this question. There is nothing in the State Stormwater permit that prevents the
facility from moving ahead with this plan to withdraw water from the pond. If there is a wastewater permit that could
be impacted by introducing a different water source, you’ll want to check with that program (i.e., if it could affect the
facility’s ability to comply with discharge limits of a wastewater permit). You’ll also want to consider precautions that
will prevent any discharge impacts that could violate an industrial stormwater permit, such as check valves you
mentioned. Otherwise, there is no DEQ Stormwater Program review or approval process needed for this modification to
your treatment process, as long as the pond will not be pumped/drained to the level where nearby wetlands or surface
waters could be impacted (drained or drawn down)—that situation would independently cause water quality standard
violations.
Best regards,

Good morning,
1
I have a question from our Cove City facility about drafting water from our wet detention pond to use in our wood
treating process. Would this be allowed? I realize we would need to take several safety precautions such as check valves
in the line for backflow prevention. This would also help eliminate standing water in the pond. At this point nothing has
been done towards this project and nothing will be done until we hear back from you or someone from NCDENR.
Thanks
Josh Adkins
