Annual Avg Daily Traffic (veh/hr/day): Design/Future: 10000 Year: 2040 Existing: 6800 Year: 2018 General Project Narrative: The Project involves extending Loius Stephens Drive (SR 1632) from Okelly Chapel Road (SR1628) in Research Triangle Park to Poplar Pike Lane in Morrisville. The project (Description of Minimization of Water runs along a ridge from 500' west of Parkside Valley Drive to the end of the project just west of Gray Marble Road. There are existing apartment developements on both sides Quality Impacts) of the road as well as existing steep terrain on the south side of the project. Due to these constraints there are not any good drainage outfalls along this stretch of roadway. The West end of the project has to go underneath existing I-540 which results in the roadway profile undercutting a existing outfall just west of I-540. Therefore most of the project drainage is drained in a stormdrain system from just west of Gray Marble Road to a Tributary of Kit Creek located just west of I-540. Two grass swales are proposed to treat runoff from the storm drain system before it enters the Tributary of Kit Creek. The two grass swales have been designed to the maximum extent practicable to treat as much of the runoff as possible. 12" inch pipes have been designed to drain the low flow portion of the runoff from the stormdrain system at two seperate locations and each will drain into a grass swale prior to entering the Creek. The grass swales are documented in the grass swale section of this SMP. The 12" pipes have been set 1' lower in the storm drain system catch basins so the first flush of the rainfall will drain into the grass swales for treatment and the higher flows will bypass the grass swales and drain into the creek through a rip rap lined channel to prevent erosion.
