Thanks Garcy,
Worst case scenario there will be 6,120 sq. ft. or 0.14 acre of hand clearing/temporary
impact. This would be the entire length and width of the route of the boring
equipment.
Let me know if you have any other question.
Thanks again,

Hey Bob,
Hand Clearing impacts cover those temporary wetland impacts (excluding temporary
fill) where access is needed in the wetlands for equipment - often for installing
sediment and erosion control measures. You're right, it's almost impossible to know
ahead of time exactly what vegetation will need to be cut, so the entire footprint in the
wetlands is usually included. In this case, you can give a best estimate of the footprint
that the marsh buggy will be having in the wetlands at each site, then total all the
sites. If you can get that to me, we can proceed from there.
This is how we handled a similar project in Division 1 last year where they were
requesting a NW 6 for test bores along NC 45.

Good morning Gary,
I was following up to see if anything else is need to proceed with obtaining written
approval for the borings.
Thanks

Hey Garcy,
Thanks for the comment. Its difficult quantify the amount of hand clearing
required. Only individual trees too large for the equipment to straddle will be cut. Most
of the area is open enough for the equipment to maneuver around the tree. But there
will be instances when something needs to be cut. The equipment only need a 10-12
foot opening.
So with that being said, what additional information is required if the hand clearing is
assumed to be greater than 0.1 acre?
Thanks

Casey,
I've reviewed your application requesting a NW 6 permit and a 401 WQ Certification to
conduct test bores for the B-4926 project. The application states that there will be
some hand clearing in wetlands associated with access for the marsh buggy but does
not quantify how much. I need to know the amount of hand clearing in wetlands in
order to finish processing the application. If the amount is equal to or greater than 1/10
of an acre, written approval will be required for the 401. Thanks.
