EROSION CONTROL DETAILS
1. RECLAIMED WATER DISTRIBUTION LINES SHALL BE LOCATED 10 FEET HORIZONTALLY FROM

Self Inspection and Reporting Requirements
Minimum self -inspection and reporting requirements are as follows unless otherwise approved in writing by the Division of
Water Quality.
a) A rain gauge shall be maintained in good working order on the site unless another rain -monitoring device has been
approved by the Division of Water Quality.
b) A written record of the daily rainfall amounts shall be retained and all records shall be made available to Division of
Water Quality or authorized agent upon request. If no daily rain gauge observations are made during weekend or holiday
periods, and no individual -day rainfall information is available, the cumulative rain measurement for those un -attended
days will determine if a site inspection is needed. (Note: if no rainfall occurred, the permittee must record "zero")
c) Erosion and sedimentation control measures shall be inspected to ensure that they are operating correctly. Inspection
records must be maintained for each inspection event and for each measure. At a minimum, inspection of measures must
occur at the frequency indicated below:
i) All erosion and sedimentation control measures must be inspected by or under the direction of the permittee at least
once every seven calendar days, and
ii) All erosion and sediment control measures must be inspected by or under the direction of the permittee within 24
hours after any storm event or greater than 0.50 inches of rain per 24 hour period.
d) Once land disturbance has begun on the site, stormwater runoff discharge outfalls shall be inspected by observation for
erosion, sedimentation and other stormwater discharge characteristics such as clarity, floating solids and oil sheens.
Inspections of the outfalls shall be made at least once every seven calendar days and within 24 hours after any storm event
of greater than 0.50 inches of rain per 24 hour period.
e) Inspections are only required to be made during normal business hours. When adverse weather conditions would cause
the safety of the inspection personnel to be in jeopardy, the inspection can be delayed until I tis deemed safe to perform
these duties. (Times when inspection were delayed because of safety issues should be noted in the Inspection Record). If
the inspection cannot be done on that day, it must be completed on the following business day.
f) Twenty-four House Reporting for visible sediment deposition
i) The permittee shall report to the Division of Water Quality central office or the appropriate regional office any visible
sediment being deposited in any stream or wetland or any noncompliance which may endanger health or the
environment. (See Section VIII of this permit for contract information.) Any Information shall be provided orally or
electronically within 24 hours from the time the permittee became aware of the circumstances.
ii) A written submission shall be provided to the appropriate regional office of the Division of Water Quality within 5 days
of the time the permittee becomes aware of the circumstances. The written submission shall contain a description of
the sediment deposition and actions taken to address the cause of the deposition. The Division of Water Quality staff
may waive the requirement for a written report on a case-by-case basis.
g) Records of inspections made during the previous 30 days shall remain on the site and available for agency inspectors at all
times during normal working hours, unless the Division of Water Quality provides a site-specific exemption based on unique
site conditions that make this requirement not practical. Older records must be maintained for a period of three years after
project completion and made available upon request. The records must provide the details of each inspection including
observations, and actions taken in accordance with this permit. The permittee shall record the required rainfall and
monitoring observations on the Inspection Record form provided by the Division or a similar inspection form that is inclusive
of all of the elements contained in the Division's form. Use of electronically -available records, in lieu of the required paper
copies for inspection will be allowed if shown to provide equal access and ut8ility as the hard -copy records.
h) Inspection records must include, at a minimum, the following:
i) Control Measure Inspections: Inspection records must include at a minimum: 1) identification of the measures
inspected, 2) date and time of the inspection, 3) name of the person performing the inspection, 4) indication of
whether the measures were operating properly, 5) description of maintenance needs for the measure, 6) corrective
actions taken (7) date of actions taken, as well as the date and amounts of rainfall received.
ii) Stormwater Discharge Inspections: Inspection records must include at a minimum: 1) identification of the discharge
outfall inspected, 2) date and time of the inspection, 3) name of the person performing the inspection, 4) evidence of
indicators of stormwater pollution such as oil sheen, floating or suspended solids or discoloration, 5) indication of
visible sediment leavingthe site 6 actions taken to correct/prevent sedimentation and 7 date of actions taken.

iii) Visible Sedimentation Found Outside the Site Limits: Inspection records must include: 1) an explanation as to the
actions taken to control future releases, 2) actions taken to clean up or stabilize the sediment that has left the site
limits and 3) the date of actions taken.
iv) Visible Sedimentation Found in Streams or Wetlands: All inspection should include evalu7ation of streams or wetlands
onsite or offsite (where accessible) to determine if visible sedimentation has occurred.
i) Visible Stream Turbidity - If the discharge form a site results in an increase in visible str4eam turbidity, inspection records
must record that evidence and actions taken to reduce sediment contribution. Sites discharging to streams named on the
state's 303(d) list as impaired for sediment -related causes may be required to perform additional monitoring, inspections or
application of more -stringent management practices if it is determined that the additional requirements are needed to assure
compliance with the federal or state impaired -waters conditions. If a discharge covered by this permit enters a stream
segment that is listed on the Impaired Stream List for sediment -related causes, and a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) has
been prepared for those pollutants, the permittee must implement measures to ensure that the discharge of pollutants from
the site is consistent with the assumptions and meets the requirements of the approved TMDL. The Division of Water Quality

SILT FENCE OUTLET MAINTENANCE
REMOVE SEDIMENT WHEN HALF OF STONE OUTLET IS COVERED.
REPLACE STONE AS NEEDED TO ENSURE DEWATERING.
INSPECT SEDIMENT FENCES AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK AND AFTER EACH RAINFALL. MAKE ANY
REQUIRED REPAIRS IMMEDIATELY
SHOULD THE FABRIC OF A SEDIMENT FENCE COLLAPSE, TEAR, DECOMPOSE OR BECOME
INEFFECTIVE, REPLACE IT PROMPTLY.
REMOVE SEDIMENT DEPOSITS AS NECESSARY TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE STORAGE VOLUME FOR
THE NEXT RAIN AND TO REDUCE PRESSURE ON THE FENCE. TAKE CARE TO AVOID
UNDERMINING THE FENCE DURING CLEANOUT.
REMOVE ALL FENCING MATERIALS AND UNSTABLE SEDIMENT DEPOSITS AND BRING THE AREA

9. CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE NECESSARY ACTION TO MINIMIZE THE TRACKING OF MUD ONTO THE PAVED
ROADWAY CONSTRUCTION AREAS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE MUD/SOIL FROM PAVEMENT DAILY, AS
MAY BE REQUIRED.
10. CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE AND REINSTALL ALL EXISTING FENCE AS REQUIRED FOR PIPE INSTALLATION.
ANY ADDITIONAL FENCE MATERIALS REQUIRED SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR AT NO ADDITIONAL
COST TO THE OWNER.
11. OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (OSHA) STANDARDS FOR EXCAVATIONS; FINAL RULE
29CFR PART 1926, SUBPART "P" APPLIES TO ALL EXCAVATIONS EXCEEDING FIVE (5) FEET IN DEPTH.
EXCAVATION EXCEEDING TWENTY (20) FEET IN DEPTH REQUIRES THE DESIGN OF A TRENCH SAFETY SYSTEM
BY A REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER, PROVIDED BY CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBLE FOR EXCAVATION.
12. WHERE POSSIBLE, WHEN INSTALLING WATER SERVICES, CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE A REASONABLE EFFORT
TO PLACE SERVICE LINES UNDER CURB AND GUTTER WITHOUT DAMAGE TO CURB AND GUTTER. SERVICE
TRENCH WIDTHS SHALL BE KEPT TO A MINIMUM.
13. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR UTILITY RELOCATION COSTS IF REQUIRED FOR CONTRACTOR'S
METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY COSTS RESULTING FROM
DAMAGE TO EXISTING UTILITIES.
14. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A MEANS TO KEEP ALL NEW PIPING ISOLATED FROM EXISTING PIPING UNTIL
ALL NEW PIPING HAS BEEN PRESSURE TESTED, FLUSHED, AND ACCEPTED BY THE OWNER AND DURHAM
COUNTY FOR SERVICE.
15. CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR ALL DAMAGED DRIVEWAYS, DRIVEWAY PIPES, CURB AND GUTTER, SIDEWALKS,
STREETS AND ALL EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS TO EXISTING CONDITION OR BETTER AND TO THE SATISFACTION
OF THE OWNER.
16. CONTRACTOR SHALL RESTORE/REPLACE ALL DISTURBED SIGNS, MAILBOXES, ETC. TO ORIGINAL CONDITION
AND LOCATION AS SOON AS THE CONSTRUCTION PROGRESSES BEYOND THAT LOCATION. IN NO
CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL POSTAL SERVICE BE INTERRUPTED TO PROPERTIES ALONG THE CONSTRUCTION
CORRIDOR.
17. ALL ROADSIDE DITCHES DISTURBED DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE RESTORED TO PRECONSTRUCTION
CONDITION OR BETTER AND STABILIZED WITH STRAW AND NET MATTING UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED.
18. ALL MATERIAL CLEARED OR DEMOLISHED BY THE CONTRACTOR IN ORDER TO INSTALL THE RECLAIMED
WATER SERVICE SHALL BECOME THE PROPERTY OF THE CONTRACTOR AND SHALL BE PROPERLY DISPOSED
OF OFF SITE. NO BURNING WILL BE ALLOWED.
19. EXISTING SURVEY DATA PROVIDED BY THE JOHN R. McADAMS COMPANY FOR ENGINEERING PURPOSES ONLY,
NOT FOR RECORDATION.
UTILITY NOTES
1. ALL NEW CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH DURHAM COUNTY LATEST STANDARDS, DETAILS AND
SPECIFICATIONS.
2. EXISTING UTILITIES SHOWN ARE BASED ON FIELD SURVEYS AND THE BEST AVAILABLE RECORD DRAWINGS.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY CONDITIONS PRIOR TO BEGINNING CONSTRUCTION. ANY DISCREPANCIES
BETWEEN ACTUAL FIELD CONDITIONS AND THE PLANS SHALL BE REPORTED TO THE ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY.
3. CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLETE CONSTRUCTION UTILIZING MEANS AND METHODS TO PREVENT OR MINIMIZE
LOSS OF WATER SERVICE TO RESIDENTS AND OTHER WATER USERS.
4. IN ACCORDANCE WITH GENERAL STATUTE 87-121(G), ALL UNDERGROUND UTILITIES INSTALLED AFTER

5. HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL SEPARATION: SHALL BE AS DESCRIBED IN THE SPECIFICATIONS AND STANDARD
DETAILS.
6. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT THE DURHAM COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA TO COORDINATE ALL SHUT -DOWNS
OF THE EXISTING WATER SYSTEM. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT OPERATE ANY EXISTING VALVES. DETAILS
FOR PLANNED SHUT -DOWNS, CONNECTIONS AND SCHEDULING SHALL BE DISCUSSED AT PRECONSTRUCTION
MEETING TO PREVENT ANY ISSUES THROUGHOUT THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS.
EROSION CONTROL NOTES:
1. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONTROL OF SEDIMENT ON-SITE. EACH
EROSION CONTROL DEVICE (CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCES, INLET PROTECTION, AND SILT
FENCING WHERE DETERMINED TO BE NEEDED) MUST BE INSPECTED AFTER EACH STORM
EVENT. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND/OR CLEAN OUT IS NECESSARY TO ENSURE THAT
DEVICES CONTINUE TO OPERATE AS INTENDED. ALL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES WILL
REMAIN ON SITE AND FUNCTIONAL UNTIL ALL UTILITY BACKFILL, MATTING, AND
PERMANENT SEEDING IS COMPLETE.
2. IF THE APPROVED EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL MEASURES PROVE
INSUFFICIENT, CONTRACTOR MUST TAKE THOSE ADDITIONAL STEPS NECESSARY TO STOP
SEDIMENT FROM LEAVING SITE.
3. A COPY OF THE APPROVED EROSION CONTROL PLAN MUST BE ON FILE AT THE JOB
SITE AT ALL TIMES.
4. PRIOR TO BEGINNING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES, CONTRACTOR TO SCHEDULE
PRECONSTRUCTION MEETING WITH RELEVANT AGENCIES INCLUDING NCDEQ DEMLR FOR
EROSION CONTROL. CONTRACTOR SHALL CLEAR AND GRUB THE CONSTRUCTION
CORRIDOR AND ALL UTILITY EASEMENTS ONLY TO THE EXTENT REQUIRED FOR
RECLAIMED WATER SERVICE INSTALLATION. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE EVERY EFFORT
TO PROTECT TREES THAT WILL NOT BE REMOVED DURING CONSTRUCTION.
5. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE AND ADDITIONAL EROSION
CONTROL DEVICES AS NEEDED FOR ANY MATERIAL LAY DOWN STAGING AREA
EXCAVATED MATERIAL STORAGE OR ANY OTHER AREAS DISTURBED BY CONSTRUCTION
FOR MORE THAN 7 CALENDAR DAYS. DEMOLITION MATERIALS AND STOCKPILES SHALL
BE NO CLOSER THAN 50' FROM STORM DRAINS AND STREAMS.
6. CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE, AND REMOVAL OF ALL EROSION CONTROL DEVICES ARE
THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE GRADING CONTRACTOR UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
7. ANY GRADING BEYOND THE CLEARING LIMITS SHOWN ON THE PLAN IS A VIOLATION OF
THE CITY/COUNTY EROSION CONTROL ORDINANCE AND IS SUBJECT TO A FINE.
8. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT AND REPAIR ALL EROSION CONTROL DEVICES AT LEAST
ONCE PER WEEK AND AFTER EVERY RAINFALL EVENT GREATER THAN 1/2".
9. ON A DAILY BASIS, UPON COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES, PERMANENT
SEEDING SHALL BE PLACED AND EROSION CONTROL MATTING SHALL BE INSTALLED ON
DISTURBED AREA IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS. CONTRACTOR
SHALL LIMIT DISTURBANCE TO THE LENGTH THAT CAN BE STABILIZED AT THE END OF
THE WORK DAY.
10. PERMANENT AND TEMPORARY SEEDING SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SCHEDULE
PROVIDED.
11. UPON STABILIZATION OF THE CONSTRUCTION CORRIDOR AND APPROVAL BY NCDEQ
INSPECTOR, CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE AND PROPERLY DISPOSE OF EROSION
CONTROL DEVICES.
CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE NOTES:
1. OBTAIN PLAN APPROVAL AND OTHER APPLICABLE PERMITS.
2. SCHEDULE A PRECONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE WITH NCDEQ DEMLR, NC DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION,
DURHAM COUNTY, THE ENGINEER, AND THE OWNER. MULTIPLE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVES WILL BE
INCLUDED AS DETERMINED BY THE OWNER FOR PERMIT OVERSIGHT. COORDINATE WITH THE OWNER WILL
IN ADVANCE OF THE PROPOSED MEETING DATE.
3. INSTALL A RURAL TYPE MAILBOX OR SIMILAR WATERTIGHT BOX ON THE SITE TO HOLD COPIES OF THE
APPROVED EROSION CONTROL PLAN AND FLOODPLAIN DEVELOPMENT PERMIT.
4. FLAG THE WORK LIMITS AND MARK THE TREE PROTECTION AND BUFFER PROTECTION AREAS IF
APPLICABLE.
5. INSTALL CONSTRUCTION EGRESS/EXIT, SILT FENCING, TREE PROTECTION FENCING AND OTHER INITIAL
EROSION CONTROL MEASURES AS SPECIFIED IN THE PLAN. REMOVE ONLY TREES AND GROUND COVER
NECESSARY TO INSTALL THESE DEVICES.
6. BEGIN CLEARING AND GRADING AS REQUIRED. MAINTAIN DEVICES AS NEEDED.
7. BEGIN INSTALLATION OF RECLAIMED WATER SERVICE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPROVED S&E CONTROL
PLAN. AT STREAM CROSSINGS, USE THE TIMBER BRIDGING AS SPECIFIED IN THE PLAN AND DETAILS.
WHEN CROSSING WETLANDS, USE WOOD MATS AS SPECIFIED IN THE PLAN AND DETAILS.
8. INSTALL SUMP PUMP WITH FILTER BAG (DIRT BAG) TO DEWATER UTILITY TRENCHES. MAINTAIN 1% SLOPE
TO FILTER SUMP AREA AS SHOWN ON PLANS. SEE DETAIL ON SHEET D-2.
9. NO MUD SHALL BE TRACKED ONTO EXISTING PAVEMENT OR A NOTICE OF VIOLATION MAY ENSUE.
ADDITIONAL MEASURES MAY BE NECESSARY TO ASSURE THAT NO SEDIMENT LEAVES THE SITE.
10. FOR STREAM CROSSINGS SEE DETAILS ON SHEET D-3, WITH SPECIFIC CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE FOR
EACH TYPE OF CROSSING.
11. PROVIDE ALL DISTURBED AREAS WITH GROUND COVER WITHIN 14 CALENDAR DAYS AFTER COMPLETION OF
ANY PHASE OF CLEARING, GRUBBING, OR GRADING. THE SEEDING, SEEDBED PREPARATION, MULCH,
AND/OR ROLLED EROSION CONTROL PRODUCT INSTALLATION MUST BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SEEDING
SCHEDULE PROVIDED IN THIS S&EC PLAN. NOTE: SLOPES IN EXCESS OF 3H:1 V SHALL BE STABILIZED

12. AT THE CONCLUSION OF CONSTRUCTION OR IF LAND -DISTURBING ACTIVITY IS STOPPED FOR MORE THAN

13. WHEN CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE, SCHEDULE A FINAL INSPECTION AND CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION TO
CLOSE OUT THE EROSION CONTROL PERMIT.
14. REMOVE ALL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES AFTER NCDENR LAND QUALITY INSPECTOR GRANTS APPROVAL

2. Trench bottom width in vicinit of thrust block(s) installation shall be the minimum
width for placement of pipe Max trench width = pipe O.D.+2 Ft.)
3. Place thrust collar on one full joint of pipe.
4. Last joint of pipe with thrust collar to be mechanical joint pipe with joint restraint
system (grip ring).
5. Tamp backfill in 6" lifts.
6. Weld -on thrust collars to be fabricated from steel.
7. Weld -on thrust collars must be specified when ordering ductile iron pipe from
manufacturer along with the applicable pipe pressure class and thrust
requirements. Refer to detail 512.02 for minimum unfactored dead-end thrust
force (i.e. plug or tee) requirements (in pounds) and provide to manufacturer

NONCOMPLIANCE WHICH MAY ENDANGER HEALTH OR THE ENVIRONMENT. (SEE SECTION VIII OF THIS PERMIT
FOR CONTRACT INFORMATION.) ANY INFORMATION SHALL BE PROVIDED ORALLY OR ELECTRONICALLY WITHIN 24
HOURS FROM THE TIME THE PERMITTEE BECAME AWARE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES.
II) A WRITTEN SUBMISSION SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE APPROPRIATE REGIONAL OFFICE OF THE DIVISION OF
WATER QUALITY WITHIN 5 DAYS OF THE TIME THE PERMITTEE BECOMES AWARE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES. THE
WRITTEN SUBMISSION SHALL CONTAIN A DESCRIPTION OF THE SEDIMENT DEPOSITION AND ACTIONS TAKEN TO
ADDRESS THE CAUSE OF THE DEPOSITION. THE DIVISION OF WATER QUALITY STAFF MAY WAIVE THE
REQUIREMENT FOR A WRITTEN REPORT ON A CASE-BY-CASE BASIS.
G) RECORDS OF INSPECTIONS MADE DURING THE PREVIOUS 30 DAYS SHALL REMAIN ON THE SITE AND AVAILABLE
FOR AGENCY INSPECTORS AT ALL TIMES DURING NORMAL WORKING HOURS, UNLESS THE DIVISION OF WATER
QUALITY PROVIDES A SITE-SPECIFIC EXEMPTION BASED ON UNIQUE SITE CONDITIONS THAT MAKE THIS
REQUIREMENT NOT PRACTICAL. OLDER RECORDS MUST BE MAINTAINED FOR A PERIOD OF THREE YEARS AFTER
PROJECT COMPLETION AND MADE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. THE RECORDS MUST PROVIDE THE DETAILS OF EACH
INSPECTION INCLUDING OBSERVATIONS, AND ACTIONS TAKEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS PERMIT. THE PERMITTEE
SHALL RECORD THE REQUIRED RAINFALL AND MONITORING OBSERVATIONS ON THE INSPECTION RECORD FORM
PROVIDED BY THE DIVISION OR A SIMILAR INSPECTION FORM THAT IS INCLUSIVE OF ALL OF THE ELEMENTS
CONTAINED IN THE DIVISION'S FORM. USE OF ELECTRONICALLY -AVAILABLE RECORDS, IN LIEU OF THE REQUIRED
PAPER COPIES FOR INSPECTION WILL BE ALLOWED IF SHOWN TO PROVIDE EQUAL ACCESS AND UT81LITY AS THE
HARD -COPY RECORDS.
H) INSPECTION RECORDS MUST INCLUDE, AT A MINIMUM, THE FOLLOWING:
1) CONTROL MEASURE INSPECTIONS: INSPECTION RECORDS MUST INCLUDE AT A MINIMUM: 1) IDENTIFICATION OF

11) STORMWATER DISCHARGE INSPECTIONS: INSPECTION RECORDS MUST INCLUDE AT AMINIMUM: 1) IDENTIFICATION
OF THE DISCHARGE OUTFALL INSPECTED, 2) DATE AND TIME OF THE INSPECTION, 3) NAME OF THE PERSON
PERFORMING THE INSPECTION, 4) EVIDENCE OF INDICATORS OF STORMWATER POLLUTION SUCH AS OIL SHEEN,
FLOATING OR SUSPENDED SOLIDS OR DISCOLORATION, 5) INDICATION OF VISIBLE SEDIMENT LEAVING THE SITE
6) ACTIONS TAKEN TO CORRECT/PREVENT SEDIMENTATION AND 7) DATE OF ACTIONS TAKEN.
III) VISIBLE SEDIMENTATION FOUND OUTSIDE THE SITE LIMITS: INSPECTION RECORDS MUST INCLUDE: 1) AN
EXPLANATION AS TO THE ACTIONS TAKEN TO CONTROL FUTURE RELEASES, 2) ACTIONS TAKEN TO CLEAN UP
OR STABILIZE THE SEDIMENT THAT HAS LEFT THE SITE LIMITS AND 3) THE DATE OF ACTIONS TAKEN.
IV) VISIBLE SEDIMENTATION FOUND IN STREAMS OR WETLANDS: ALL INSPECTION SHOULD INCLUDE EVALUATION OF
STREAMS OR WETLANDS ONSITE OR OFFSITE (WHERE ACCESSIBLE) TO DETERMINE IF VISIBLE SEDIMENTATION
HAS OCCURRED.
1) VISIBLE STREAM TURBIDITY - IF THE DISCHARGE FORM A SITE RESULTS IN AN INCREASE IN VISIBLE STREAM

FOR LAND -DISTURBING ACTIVITIES INSPECT A PROJECT AFTER EACH PHASE OF THE PROJECT TO MAKE SURE THAT
THE APPROVED EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL PLAN IS BEING FOLLOWED. RULES DETAILING THE
DOCUMENTATION OF THESE INSPECTIONS TOOK EFFECT OCTOBER 1, 2010.
TO SIMPLIFY DOCUMENTATION OF SELF -INSPECTION REPORTS AND NPDES SELF-MONITORING REPORTS, NCDEQ DWR
AND DEMLR DEVELOPED A COMBINED FORM. THE SELF -INSPECTION PROGRAM IS SEPARATE FROM THE WEEKLY
SELF-MONITORING PROGRAM OF THE NPDES STORMWATER PERMIT FOR CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES. THE FOCUS OF

5. ENSURE THAT BYPASS CHANNELS NECESSARY TO DEWATER

STREAM. UPON COMPLETION OF THE CROSSING, FILL,
COMPACT, AND STABILIZE THE BYPASS CHANNEL
APPROPRIATELY.
6. REMOVE TEMPORARY STREAM CROSSING IMMEDIATELY WHEN
THEY ARE NO LONGER NEEDED. RESTORE THE STREAM
CHANNEL TO ITS ORIGINAL CROSS-SECTION, AND SMOOTH
AND APPROPRIATELY STABILIZE ALL DISTURBED AREAS.
7. ANY IN -STREAM SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES MUST BE
REMOVED UPON STABILIZATION OF THE AREA.

UPSTREAM OF THE WORK SITE TO THE SPECIAL STILLING BASIN.
3. INSTALL UPSTREAM IMPERVIOUS DIKE AND BEGIN PUMPING
OPERATIONS FOR STREAM DIVERSION.
4. INSTALL THE DOWNSTREAM IMPERVIOUS DIKE AND PUMPING
APPARATUS IF NEEDED TO DEWATER THE ENTRAPPED AREA. THE
PUMP AND HOSE FOR THIS PURPOSE SHALL BE OF SUFFICIENT SIZE
TO DEWATER THE WORK AREA. THIS WATER WILL ALSO FLOW INTO
A SPECIAL STILLING BASIN.
5. THE CONTRACTOR WILL PERFORM STREAM RESTORATION WORK IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE PLAN AND FOLLOWING THE GENERAL
CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE.
6. THE CONTRACTOR WILL EXCAVATE ANY ACCUMULATED SEDIMENT
