SCOTT September 12, 2017 Re: Information Packet for Properties Near Chemours - Fayetteville Facility Including Request to Collect Well Samples at Your Property Dear Sir or Madam: Recent analysis of samples collected at the Chemours Facility located at 22828 NC Highway 87 West, Cumberland and Bladen Counties, North Carolina, indicates groundwater at that Facility is contaminated with fluorinated compounds. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) are providing information with this letter concerning this contamination. As part of DEQ's continued investigation to determine the extent of any potential groundwater contamination in this area, we would like to collect samples of water from any supply wells on your property. We are requesting to sample your well to determine whether the well has been impacted by the contamination from the Chemours Facility. Enclosed is a form requesting permission to collect samples of the well water from your property for analysis. To collect these samples, staff from the DEQ's Division of Waste Management (DWM) will purge water from your well for approximately 15 minutes. Two small sample bottles will then be filled. You do not have to be at home to have your well sampled as DWM will attempt to collect the sample from a faucet at the wellhouse or from an outdoor faucet. This sampling will be performed at no cost to you. The laboratory results will be forwarded to you as soon as possible. To allow the DWM to collect samples from your property, please print your name, the property address, your contact information, date, and sign the attached permission form. The signed permission form may be scanned and emailed to Bud.McCarty*ncdenr.gov, or regular mailed to the following address: Ms. Julie Woosley, Chief Hazardous Waste Section Division of Waste Management 1646 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1646 Included in this packet are: a) A Fact Sheet containing information about the contamination identified in groundwater at the Chemours Facility; and, b) The form for you to sign to grant permission for the State to collect samples from the well and to provide basic information about the well on your property.
