Subject: follow upquestions
Hi Jamie,
I've combed through the records that you provided on Friday (thank you), and have a few follow up
questions. My deadline is 12:30 pm tomorrow (Tuesday). |'m on the hook for a story tomorrow, and |'m
previewing the EMC meeting on Wednesday at which Knappe is slated to speak.
I've bolded the questions, so you can tell them apart from the context.
Thanks a bunch,
Lisa
1. On January 10, Michael Johnson from Chemours sent Connie Brower the report by Detlef
Knappe |tappears from the emai|sthat nothing came ofthat.
Why did Connie not continue to look into Knappe's findings at that time?
On March 6, Connie Brower wrote to Julie Grrybthat the "mention of[hemours" in the
message is "disturbing" because previously levels were highest well above the plant and were
attributed tothe military base.
Was Connie referring to9FOASingeneral orGenX? And what was being done tostem the
flow of these chemicals from the base? I'd like to know where to find the data for those levels,

that were taken, or not.
3. In March, there was back and forth about scheduling a meeting with Knappe but not until the
second week of April. What was the level of concern at the time within DWR about Knappe's
4. In mid -April, the meeting was set up with the water team at which Knappe discussed GenX,
among other contaminants. Nothing happened until mid'K4ay,when Knappecalled and emai|ed
again. (These many exchanges occurred May l6.)
Jessica Godreau noted in one email that she doesn't believe that "I have been involved in any
meetings ordiscussion about this." But she was ccd onthe original email the previous
November and again inApril inadvance ofthe Knappemeeting. |sJessica saying that she
doesn't recall these emmaUsor the Knappe paper?
Also onMay 16 Knappe tells DWR staffers that he's been contacted by the Star News and wants
feedback before he responds. But there is still no action reflected in the emails. And finally, after
another meeting with the Cape Fear River Partnership in late May, there are still delays in a
Knappe meeting. Connie Brower and Julie 6ryzbplan tomeet with him inJune.
alerted to these developments?
