As part of the investigatN.C. DEQ collected groundwater samples from 14 groundwater monitoring wells on the Chemours property in August 2017. The results from the samples show that x wells had levels of PFAS in the ground water above what is allowable by their permit [or something like that. In addition, 13 of DEQ-CFW-00083613 the wells had detectable levels of GenX above the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) drinking water health goal (explain here) and 4 wells had detectable levels of PFOA or PFOS above the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Drinking Water Health Advisory level (explain here). DEQ needs more information to figure out if GenX and related compounds have moved into groundwater near the Chemours property, which is why the state is reaching out to residents who have wells within a mile radius of the Chemours facility.
