Let me know Dianne's response on this. Thanks. Belinda e h., Elizabeth Kountis wrote: 1)1- PFOA is very costly to that is certified to analyze Am I correct that the Dupont Fayetteville Works plant is the only one discharger in this proposed area? Please note that it just came to my attention that PFOA is a concern in this proposed watershed, and I have contacted Dianne to see if she is going to sample for it as part of the UAS request that I submitted to ya'l1 recently. Belinda Henson wrote: Elizabeth, This area of the proposed reclassification is rural with probably 80% agriculture (50%) forestry and (30%) row crops, 15% residential, 1% industrial, 4% animal operations. There are not any plans at this time for new dischargers or any new development that we are aware of. I do not know of any objections to this reclassification at this time. Thanks....... Belinda Elizabeth Kountis wrote: Attached is the map of the proposed WS-IV. I thought I would e-mail it rather than fax it so you can zoom into areas if you'd like. I would like to confirm that there is only one individually permitted wastewater discharger in the proposed watershed, Dupont Fayetteville Works. In addition, could you please tell me the current land use in the proposed watershed by percentage? For instance, 50% animal operations, 25% row crops, 5% wooded, 5% residential, 5% commercial, 5% industrial, and 5% crops (such as forestry or row crops). I would also like to know if there are plans for any new dischargers or new development to be built in that proposed watershed ONCE the reclassification becomes effective, which should be next spring. Finally, any issues or concerns you think may be raised by this reclassification? And anyone you think would be against it? Thanks! P.S. I may need to verify with you at a later point that the answers above have not changed (once I get closer to going to the WQC). P.S.S. Please know that this week I will be sending you a copy of the UAS request for this reclassification; that is the request that my unit makes of 1 of 2 4/11/2007 10:51 AM DEQ-CFW 00070657 Re: Cape Fear proposed WS ESS to determine if these waters meet water supply water quality standards. They may do some sampling in order to make this determination. That request includes a hard copy of the attached map, the request for reclassification, and a list of the waters in the proposed watershed. Belinda Henson wrote: Elizabeth, You can contact Mark Brantley or myself. Thanks. Belinda Elizabeth Kountis wrote: I just wanted to let you know that we received a request to reclassify a portion of the Cape Fear River in Bladen and Cumberland Counties to WS-IV. You may already have heard of this project. It is being requested by the Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority and is part of the proposed Bladen Bluffs Water System. The treatment facility is to be constructed at the Smithfield Packing property, and the intake is to be located about 2.5 miles north of the Town of Tar Heel. For every reclassification, I contact the appropriate RO early in the process. I would like to confirm the existing dischargers in the proposed watershed and learn about the current land use in the proposed watershed. I would also like to know if there are plans for any new dischargers or new development to be built in that proposed watershed ONCE the reclassification becomes effective, which will be next spring. Who within your office would be the best contact to get this info? Please note that I did receive a map of the proposed watershed with the reclassification request, and will be verifying that it is correct early next week. I will send the map by fax to your office, but wanted to address it to the staff member who might be able to help answer my above questions. (I can also fax it to you if -you'd like!) Thanks in advance for your help on this one. Have a terrific weekend! Belinda S.
