I'm doing some rewrites, so it will be different. We have to head to Brunswick in a few minutes. Set for Friday release.

"We expected to see some variations from the first data sets, given that Chemours acknowledged its failure to fully
divert GenX as promised on June 21," said Michael S. Regan, secretary of the N.C. Department of Environmental
Quality (DEQ). "We anticipate that samples taken after July 13 will show a marked decrease in concentrations. And
we continue to seek federal guidance on what will be a long process to ensure that GenX does not affect drinking
water sourced from the Cape Fear River."
On Monday, Governor Roy Cooper wrote to Scat Pruitt, administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
asking the EPA to move more quickly to finalize its health assessment and set a maximum contaminant level for the
emerging contaminant. (Read the fu.1.1 I ll r.)
Last week, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) r yi -t - ltb g . for lifetime
exposure (70 years) to GenX in drinking water to 140 parts per trillion (ppt; also referred to as nanograms per liter,
or npl). This conservative standard reflects preliminary guidance from the EPA and the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC).
Findings also vary in raw water samples. The example from the Chemours outfall increased considerably, as dii.
raw samples from Bladen Bluffs and LCFWSA.
DEQ has deployed a strict protocol for collecting water samples at '1-3.-it's. near Chemours through points
downstream to Wilmington. Chemours stated on June 21 that it would stop discharging the material into the river
and instead divert it to storage tanks The contents were transported out of state for incineration. However,
preliminary data suggested hirhr tln epted lxl, leading the company to identify and halt discharge at
another location on July 13.

Subject: DEQ has new sampling data
FYI asyou put together Govsevent and statements for Monday. D8Qreceived new sampling data from
Test America and will be ready to announce levels by Friday. I have not seen the levels, but my sense is
that they are similar to those released previously meaning mostly below 140 with some exceptions.
