Commercial Power to Piney Island
Carteret County
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The applicant proposes to install a
electric power line from the mainland to the Piney Island Target
Range. The construction of the power line will result in the
clearing by hand of approximately 16.6 acres of palustrine

impact to 0.3 acres of irregularly flooded brackish marsh, and
12,700 linear feet of bottom substrate in Long Bay. The 24,000
aerial portion of the project will consist of wooden poles placed
every 280 feet along the line. Excess material from the pole
holes will be spread evenly in the area adjacent to the poles.
ADJACENT WATER BODY: Long Bay
CLASSIFICATION: SA NSW
The project has been reviewed to determine impacts to water
quality. The following comments have been provided.
1. The project will require a 401 Water Quality Certification.
2. The project complies with the General 401 Water Quality
Certification No. 2664 for Utility Lines.
This Office has no objection to the project as proposed.
