From: Kritzer, Jamie Sent: Tuesday, June ZO,ZOl77:3UPM Subject: State Moving forward with GenX investigation Roy Cooper, Governor Michael S. Regan, Secretary RALEIGH —The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality's Secretary Michael S. Regan issued the following statement Tuesday after [hemouns'announcement regarding GenX: "Chemours' announcement today to capture, remove and safely dispose of the wastewater that contains the chemical compound known as GenXfnom the Cape Fear River is a step in the right direction. However, the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services plan to continue to investigate this issue until we have answers to address the concerns of downstream water users. DEQ will move forward with its schedule for collecting and analyzing water samples from the Cape Fear River. We plan to collect samples for analysis in the Wilmington region Thursday and will continue collecting in both the Wilmington and Fayetteville regions throughout the next two weeks. DEQ and DHHS will report the results. We will also continue to push the Environmental Protection Agency to provide regulatory guidance on GenX, which is an unregu|atedcontaminant."
