He is reviewing all emails, as well as summaries of citizen phone calls, as part of his investigation into this matter. I will do my besttoaddress your questions and comments, but please understand that I may not be able to do so fully at this time. This week, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) began collecting water samples to better understand current conditions and take appropriate action. While there is a |ovv health risk associated with GenX, DE{lhas strongly encouraged Chemours to identify any measures that can be taken to reduce or eliminate the discharges of the chemical to the Cape Fear River until the state completes its investigation. Additionally, DEQ also is pushing the Environmental Protection Agency to provide regulatory guidance on GenX, which is an unregulated contaminant. D8lappreciates the diverse impacts this matter may have onthe greater Wilmington community. As part of a broad effort to keep citizens informed as we move forward, we will be launching a xvebsite this week to share information about GenX. I am writing in hopes that your office will do everything in their power to protect the people over profits of corporations that continue to practice such policy. I am asking that you please inform us citizens what is being done to stop all dumping of all ingredients known and unknown into a river that is the sole source of our drinking water. I would like to know what actions are being taken to address this issue and make sure this never happens again. Cancer and autoimmune disorders are real threats to our community and we know the environment in which we live can play a huge role in both cases. There are too many people who's lives have been destroyed by environmental apathy, it is time to ask questions. It is time to take serious thought in regards to how we allow companies to operate within our community. It should be the moral stance of all corporations to do right by all citizens within the communities in which they operate, not just shareholders. It is unfortunate that we would need such laws created when it is obviously the right thing to do, but until companies lead with integrity it is clear we need our elected officials to enforce such regulation. It is time to make sure we have laws protecting people and their right to healthy clean air and water. With Gratitude, A concerned Citizen of the Cape Fear Region with two young children drinking water contaminated with cancer/disease causing ingredients because there is no law preventing the dumping of such ingredients into the Cape Fear River.
