But that information has not been publicly disclosed until recently. ^oenx^ is a suspected carcinogen and is a relatively new material that has been developed to replace its predecessor c8. For many decades, wherever duPnnt {now chemours} have carried out manufacture of c9, they excessively polluted drinking water sources with this material. eventually after significant legal actions, c8 has been phased out and replaced by ^aenx.^ out the practices of excessive discharge into drinking water supplies continues unabated' even though preliminary toxicological studies of '`Genx^ have determined that it is currently a suspected human carcinogen. why would anyone be granted free reign to discharge such a toxic substance pretty much at will? And given the long term track record of dupont (now called Chemours) why would they be allowed to operate at all? why is chemuurs allowed to discharge these toxic materials into the Cape pear River? why do its operating permits allow this with no requirement for containment' measurement, monitoring and reporting of discharges of this toxic substance? They apparently have an operating permit for one process that produces ^Genx^ as a co product in another process. Because ^Genx^ is not the primary intended product for that process, the permit has no restrictions on discharges of this material into public waterways? This makes no sense and needs to be corrected. The public drinking water companies in southeast North Carolina do not have the capability to remove this material in their treatment systems so the toxic substances are being sent directly to all homes in the area sourced from the cape pear River. The mcosQ should immediately cause a shutdown of this process until proper controls are in place to protect public drinking water sources. Furthermore, the mposs permit, currently under review' needs to be substantially amended to incorporate proper controls' monitoring & reporting requirements. since learning of this shocking situation a little more than a week ago' many local citizens have begun to band together to protect ourselves and our drinking water. we will not go away until this issue is resolved. please help us in that cause.
