PROJECT DESCRIPTION ,,The project is located on the northern side of the Little Shallotte River (Shallotte Creek), in Chadwick Landing Subdivision, on Chadwick Landing Drive, off SR 1132, in the Shell Point community of Brunswick County. The project site is an existing common access, (approximately 215' long and 30' wide) which extends from Chadwick Landing Drive to the water. The access is grassed and slopes from an elevation of 15 feet, at the road, to 4.5 feet, at the top of the embankment adjacent to the river. There is a border (approximately 40' wide) of mixed coastal wetland vegetation, including both high and low mash species. This border is primarily smooth cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora), but black needle rush (Juncos romarianus), saltwort (Salicornia spp.), sea lavender (Limonium spp.), and salt meadow grass (Spartina patens) are intermixed along the marsh's transition to high ground. The little Shallotte River is approximately 500 feet wide in the project area. The adjacent waters are classified as S.A. by the North Carolina Division of Environmental Management, and are open to the taking of shellfish. The waters are designated as a primary nursery area by the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries. The applicants propose to construct an elevated wooden boat ramp over the marsh vegetation. The ramp would be 10 feet wide, with a guard rail on both sides, 4 feet high. The boat ramp would extend 50 feet from the highground to the waterward edge of the marsh, on a 6% slope, at which point the slope of the ramp would increase to intersect the mud bottom at the MLW contour. The total length of the boat ramp would be 75 feet, of which, approximately 55 feet would be below MHW. An associated floating dock (16' x 81) is proposed to facilitate, launching. The dock would be accessed by a walk ramp (3' wide), off a platform attached to the boatramp. The floating dock would extend 10 feet waterward of the end of the boat ramp. The water depth would be approximately 1' to 2' feet at MLW. The applicants have obtained waivers from the adjacent riparian property owners to allow construction of the boat ramp within the 15 foot setback from riparian access corridor lines. 10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS The proposed structure would shade approximately 564 square feet of coastal wetlands. There should be no navigational hazard, since existing piers to the east and west extend further waterward than the proposed project. Submitted by: E.F. Brooks Date: 06-23-92 Office: Wilmington Re: Recommendation of State Permit - Chadwick Landing Boat Ramp H.O. Hinson Z have no objections to the project subject to the following conditions: 1.
