PROJECT SUMMARY: The applicant is proposing to place five pilings in the Pamlico River to use as markers during sailboat races. Environmental setting The Pamlico Sailing Club is the sponsor of various sailboat races in the Pamlico River in Beaufort County. On 2 March 198-5 the N.C. Division of Coastal Management issued CAMA Major Permit No. 35-85 to the club to place three pilings in the river to use as racing marks. For various reasons these pilings have been destroyed. Project proposal The club at this time is proposing to replace the three previous pilings at the same locations and add two more. The five locations will be as follows: SITE 1 - 1/2 NM NNW (340 deq. mag) from Tripp Point Latitude - 350 20' 20" N Longitude - 760 53' 53" W SITE 2 - .98 NM SE (130 dea. mag) from Sullivan Point and .2 NM, directly o-f short of Hawkins Landing Latitude - 350 27' 18" N Longitude - 760 51` 11" W SITE 3 - .83 N14 E (093 dea. mag) from Garrison Point Latitude - 350 23' 54" N Longitude - 760 47' 55" W SITE 4 - .82 NI-1 ESE (114 deg. macq) from ;wagged. As can be: seen from the attached plat. in addition to sites i, and :: showing pilings, site: 5 also snows an existing piling. However, the piling treat the chart is showing for the site has also :been destroyed. Therefore, as a result of the pilings beinci gone, the club is now propcsincr tc place five nova t 20' long by ± 6'' wide pilings at the locations. As also car: tD': seen from the attached chart, the pilings will be. located in areas where tee water depths will vary fro: 8' to 12' at normal wate_. Environmental impact The project as proposed should have a minimal environmenta:-I impact. David L. Gossett - bashingto.
